Craig Bohl, you might have heard of him if you’re into college football. Well, he’s been the head coach of the Wyoming Cowboys for a good ol’ ten years now. I tell ya, that’s a long time, longer than most folks stick around at any job. And just the other day, he made a big ol’ announcement, sayin’ he’s retiring. Yep, after all these years, he’s hangin’ up his hat and callin’ it quits.
Now, Craig Bohl ain’t no stranger to success, no sir. He didn’t just lead the Cowboys to a bunch of games and wins, he built a whole culture around that team. And boy, that team sure didn’t take it easy. Under his watch, they sure didn’t go down without a fight. He got them to six bowl games, and trust me, that ain’t easy to do. That’s somethin’ to be proud of, no doubt about it.
But what really makes Bohl stand out is his history before he even came to Wyoming. Before takin’ the reins in Wyoming, Bohl was the big cheese over at North Dakota State. And you know what? He took that team to three, count ’em, THREE national championships. Yep, that’s right, three of ’em. That’s a record to be proud of. It don’t happen every day. He sure knows how to make a team tough, and that’s what you need in football – toughness and grit.
So, after all that success at North Dakota State, he took over at Wyoming back in 2014. And for ten years, he led the Cowboys through thick and thin. It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, but it sure was a ride. Over those years, he built up the program to where it is today. Now, before he rides off into the sunset, he’s got one more game to coach – the Arizona Bowl. That’ll be his last game as head coach of Wyoming. A bittersweet moment, if you ask me.
Craig Bohl’s tenure at Wyoming wasn’t just about the wins, though. It was about building a foundation. You know, it’s like building a good house – you need solid walls and a strong roof. Bohl’s been that foundation for Wyoming football. His leadership helped shape a team that played with heart, determination, and the kind of grit you don’t see every day.
And don’t you think it’s all over after that Arizona Bowl, no sir. The folks at Wyoming already got themselves a new head coach lined up. Jay Sawvel, he’s the new man in charge. Sawvel’s been part of the Wyoming coaching staff for a while now, so he knows what’s what. Bohl’s got faith in him, and I reckon that’s important. Bohl’s not just walking away; he’s leavin’ behind someone who knows the ropes and is ready to keep things rollin’.
All in all, it’s been one heck of a run for Craig Bohl. He’s done more than most folks could ever dream of, and he’s done it with pride and honor. Wyoming fans sure will remember him for a long time to come. So, when he takes the field one last time in that Arizona Bowl, you can bet folks will be watchin’ close. They’ll be watchin’ not just to see if Wyoming wins, but to see off a man who’s done more for the program than you can imagine.
What’s next for Wyoming? Well, that’s hard to say. Change is always tough, but I reckon the Cowboys will be just fine. With the new coach and the foundation Bohl’s left behind, there’s a lot to look forward to. Only time will tell if they can keep up the success Bohl built. But one thing’s for sure – his legacy is set in stone.
Now, as for Bohl, I just wanna wish him all the best in his retirement. After ten long years of tough work and dedication, I’d say he’s earned a good rest. Here’s to what’s next for him, and to the future of Wyoming football.
