Alright, so I saw this “Worst Hunter Exotic” discussion popping up again, and it got me thinking about my own vault of misfit gear. I figured, why not dust off some of these so-called “terrible” Exotics and see if they’re really as bad as everyone says? I mean, there’s gotta be some use for them, right?
So, I started digging. I pulled out a bunch of Hunter Exotics that I haven’t touched in ages. I’m talking about the ones that gather digital dust. The ones you get and immediately think, “Well, that’s going straight to the vault.”

Operation: Find a Use (Any Use!)
First up, I grabbed the infamous Lucky Raspberry. Everyone seems to hate this thing. The promise is more Arc Bolt grenades, and more chance to recharge. The reality? Seemed pretty inconsistent to me. I threw grenade after grenade, trying to get that chain lightning going, hoping for that magical full recharge… Sometimes it happened, sometimes it didn’t. It felt super unreliable, especially in tougher content where you really need those grenades.
- Test 1: Patrol on the Cosmodrome. I figured, easy enemies, lots of targets…should be perfect for chain lightning. Results? Meh. It was okay, but not exactly blowing my mind. I could clear out some small groups, but it felt like my regular grenades were just as effective.
- Test 2 I took it up a notch, trying it in the public event. I thought maybe the chaos will change the exotic. Sadly, the chaos just made the exotic more difficult to use.
- Test 2: Lost Sector run. Okay, now we’re talking slightly tougher enemies. This is where I really started to feel the pain. The recharge wasn’t consistent enough to keep up with the waves of enemies, and I found myself relying on my weapons more than I wanted to. I switched back to my trusty exotic, and immediately felt the difference.
Next, I experimented with different builds. I tried pairing it with mods that boost grenade recharge, thinking maybe that would help. I slotted in some Arc-focused armor mods, hoping to squeeze out every bit of potential. It helped a little, but it still felt clunky. The random nature of the recharge just killed it for me.
I even watched a couple of YouTube videos, thinking maybe I was missing some secret technique. Nope. Everyone else seemed to be having the same problems. Lots of “almost” recharges, lots of frustration.
My final verdict? It’s not completely useless, but it’s definitely not top-tier. There are just so many other Hunter Exotics that do a better job. It’s like, why would I struggle with this random grenade recharge when I could just use something that gives me a consistent benefit? I put the exotic back to my vault after the testing.
This whole experiment really got me thinking about how we judge Exotics. Sometimes, it’s not about whether something is completely useless, but whether it’s worth using compared to the other options. And in the case of some of these “worst” Hunter Exotics, the answer is a pretty clear “no.”
