Well, let me tell ya, this whole “women’s weigh-in leak” thing, it’s got folks all riled up. I ain’t no fancy expert or nothin’, but I hear things, you know? People talkin’ at the market, at the church, everywhere you go. Seems like these gals, these fighters, they gotta get weighed before they wrestle or box or whatever they do. And sometimes, this weight stuff, it gets out. Like, somebody takes a picture or a video, and then boom! Everybody’s seen it.
Now, what’s the big deal, you ask? Well, it’s like this. These women, they work hard. They train, they sweat, they beat themselves up to be the best. And this weight thing, it’s part of the job. They gotta be a certain weight to fight fair, you see. But it’s also personal, you know? It ain’t nobody’s business how much a gal weighs, ‘cept maybe her doctor and her coach.
- First off, there’s the privacy thing. Nobody wants their weight plastered all over the internet, am I right? It’s embarrassing. It makes you feel like you’re being judged. And these fighters, they’re already under enough pressure. They don’t need this extra headache.
- Then there’s the fairness of it all. Some folks say it ain’t fair to the fighters. They’re putting themselves out there, trying to make a living, and then this happens. It’s like their private business gets turned into a show for everyone to gawk at. It ain’t right, I tell ya.
I heard tell of some gal, a real tough one, goes by the name of Dakota somethin’ or other. Young thing, just 25. She was gettin’ weighed, and somebody filmed it. Next thing ya know, it’s all over the internet, millions of people watchin’. Twenty million, they say! Can you imagine? That’s more people than I’ve seen chickens in my whole life, I reckon. Now, she’s a strong one, that Dakota. Didn’t seem to bother her too much. But what about the others? What about the gals who ain’t so tough? This kinda thing could really mess with their heads.
And then there’s another one, this Ilona gal. Plays that rugby, you know, that rough game with the funny shaped ball. Well, somebody said something nasty about her weight online, and she didn’t take it lying down. She fired right back, told that person where to stick it. Good for her, I say! But it just goes to show ya, this weight stuff, it ain’t just about numbers on a scale. It’s about how people see you, how they treat you.
Some of these fighters, they even try to make a statement with their weigh-ins. I remember hearin’ about this one boxer, a bit older than the others, 34, I think they said. She’d come in wearin’ all kinds of fancy lingerie, like she was goin’ to a party instead of a fight. Said she wanted to “embrace her femininity” and get more folks watchin’ women’s boxin’. Well, bless her heart. She was tryin’ to make the best of it, I guess. But it still don’t make it right for folks to be sneakin’ pictures and sharin’ them without askin’.
And it ain’t just the fighters, you know. This whole thing makes me think about all the young gals out there, the ones who are just growin’ up. They see this stuff, they hear people talkin’, and they start to worry about their own weight. They start thinkin’ they gotta be skinny to be pretty, or to be successful. And that ain’t true at all, I tell ya. Strong is beautiful, healthy is beautiful, and that comes in all shapes and sizes, just like them watermelons in my garden, all different but good just the same.
So, what’s the answer? I don’t rightly know. Maybe they need to tighten up security at these weigh-ins. Maybe they need to make the rules stricter. Maybe folks just need to learn some manners and mind their own business. But one thing’s for sure, this leakin’ business, it ain’t doin’ nobody no good. It’s just causin’ trouble and hurtin’ feelin’s. And these women, they deserve better than that. They’re athletes, they’re fighters, they’re strong. They deserve our respect, not our sneakin’ cameras and gossip.
Anyway, that’s just my two cents. Maybe I’m just an old woman who don’t know nothin’, but that’s how I see it.
