So, I heard the Slammy Awards were making a comeback in 2024. I got curious and dug into it a bit. Turns out, they did have a version of the Slammys back in 2020. I remember it was a WWE Network thing, not really part of the main shows.
I was kind of excited, you know, I’ve been following WWE for a while, and the Slammys, those awards are like a big deal. They started way back in 1986, if you can believe it. Anyway, I watched a little, and Billie Kay, she had a funny little segment during the show.
It was cool to see them again. The way these awards work is kinda like the Academy Awards or the Grammys, but for wrestling. Wrestlers, commentators, managers, they all get nominated.
This time around, they decided to let the fans vote, which I thought was a pretty neat idea. So, I cast my votes for my favorites, hoping they’d win. They held this new version at WWE World and I wanted to see who won.
I heard that a couple of guys, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker, have won the most Slammys in history, like 15 each! That’s crazy. Then there are some wrestlers who managed to snag six awards in a single year like Seth Rollins in 2014. I mean, can you imagine?
Here’s what I found about how it all went down:
- First off, I watched the pre-show. There were interviews and predictions, just like any other big award show.
- Then, the main event kicked off. They had Cathy Kelley and Big E hosting, which I thought was a pretty fun choice.
- They started announcing the winners, category by category. It was pretty intense. My heart was racing, hoping my picks would win.
- Between the awards, they had some cool matches and segments. It kept things interesting.
- Finally, they announced the big awards like Superstar of the Year.
It was a pretty good show, in my opinion. I really enjoyed seeing the Slammys back in action, and having the fans involved made it even better. I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with it next year.
