Alright, so today I wanna talk about that Ancient Lair place in Baldur’s Gate 3. Found myself wandering around the Underdark, you know how it is, just poking my nose into corners, and bam, there’s this weird area.
Getting In There
First off, getting to the actual lair wasn’t super obvious. I was near that Selunite Outpost, the one that got wrecked. Headed sort of west, towards where those petrified drow are standing like creepy garden gnomes. You gotta be careful though, lots of explosive mushrooms and those hook horror things lurking about. I dealt with a couple of those nasties first. Then, I spotted this kinda shimmering pathway, like a hidden bridge or something. Took a leap of faith, literally, using a jump spell, and landed near the entrance. Looked kinda ominous, gotta say.

Inside the Lair – Spooky Vibes
Stepping inside, the place felt old. Like, really old. Dusty, quiet… too quiet. My party members were getting jumpy, I could tell. We crept forward, using stealth mostly. Didn’t want to wake up whatever might be sleeping in there. The layout was kinda confusing at first, typical dungeon crawl stuff. Lots of rocks and weird glowing plants.
The Main Event
Then we stumbled into this bigger open area. And yeah, there it was. A big ol’ Spectator floating there. Nasty looking thing with all the eyes. It wasn’t alone for long, either. See, those petrified drow I mentioned earlier? This thing started un-petrifying them! Suddenly, we were in a proper scrap.
- Focused fire on the Spectator first. Seemed like the main threat. Used my strongest attacks.
- Had Shadowheart keep everyone healed up, ’cause those drow hit surprisingly hard once they got moving.
- Astarion did his sneaky backstabbing thing.
- My character, well, I just tanked and spanked, basically. Tried to keep the Spectator’s attention.
It was a tough fight, not gonna lie. That eye-beam thing the Spectator does is rough. Had to use a few healing potions. Eventually, we took it down, and then mopped up the remaining drow. Felt good to win that one.
Loot and Leaving
After the fight, we searched the place thoroughly. Found some decent stuff on the drow bodies. One of them, Dhourn I think his name was, had some interesting gear. Can’t remember exactly what now, but it was an upgrade for someone in my party. There were also some chests and containers scattered around. Picked up some gold, scrolls, the usual adventuring treasures.
Once we cleared the place out, there wasn’t much else to do. Just a dead end, really. So, we backtracked out the way we came. Felt pretty satisfied, like we’d tackled a good challenge and came out on top. The Underdark is full of these hidden spots, always worth exploring, even if they are creepy as heck.
