Okay, so today I decided to dive into this whole “worth of a single mortal life” thing in Baldur’s Gate 3. I’ve seen some chatter online about it, and honestly, it sounded kinda heavy, but also super interesting. So, I booted up the game, ready to get my hands dirty.
Figuring Out Where to Start
First, I needed to figure out where this whole quest even begins. I remembered reading something about it being tied to the Necromancy of Thay, that creepy book you find. I’d already snagged that book earlier in my playthrough (who doesn’t grab a mysterious, glowing book, right?), so I went back to my camp to find it.

I spent some time searching my bag(I had a lot of things…), and I finaly found it!
Reading The Necromancy of Thay
With the book in my inventory, I interacted with it. I mean click it and chose read. My character started flipping through the pages, and I had to pass a few Wisdom checks. Which will determine if I understand what is inside the book.
- First Wisdom Check: Easy. Passed it no problem.
- Second Wisdom Check: A bit tougher, used a little of my exp.
- Third Wisdom Check: Got all sweat. Used all of my character’s inspiration.
After successfuly pass those check. I get something inside my head. And I saw a new quest updated in my quest log.
Thinking About the Implications
After I finally got to that, I had to stop and really consider, I mean, really consider, what I was about to do. Was I prepared to make a decision that could potentially mess with someone’s very existence? It felt heavy, even for a game. The game did a good job of making me question my own morality, which is pretty cool, but also kinda stressful!
The Next Step… Maybe?
Now, here’s the thing. I haven’t actually finished this whole questline yet. I got to this point, and I needed to take a break. It’s a lot to process, you know? I’m planning to jump back in tomorrow and see where this path takes me, but I figured I’d share my progress so far. It’s definitely one of the more thought-provoking quests I’ve encountered in Baldur’s Gate 3, and it’s making me think about the choices I make in the game in a whole new way.
I’ll maybe do an update on this later.
