Okay, so, the other day, I was messing around with this idea of “gray zone living,” specifically in burrows. It sounded cool, kinda mysterious, and I wanted to see if I could actually do something with it, you know, make it real. Here’s how it all went down.
First Steps: The Idea
I started by just letting the concept sink in. “Gray zone”…what does that even mean? To me, it felt like a place between defined spaces, kinda hidden, maybe a little bit…unconventional. And “burrows”? Immediately thought of animals, hidden spaces, safety.

Getting My Hands Dirty: Building a “Burrow”
I have limited space so…
I started small. No, I didn’t go dig a hole in my backyard. I started by reorganizing a *’s a dark small space. I used it to put my clothes.
I cleared everything out. Clothes, junk, the works. It was kinda gross, dust bunnies everywhere. I vacuumed the heck out of it, got it all nice and clean.
Next, I gathered some stuff to make it cozy. I have a very soft blanket and a few extra pillows.I even found an old string of fairy lights. I draped the blanket over the floor and arranged the pillows to make a sort of nest.
Then I use the fairy lights to create a soft gray zone *’s very cool.

Spending Time: The Experience
Okay, so the “burrow” was built. Now what? I decided to just…spend time in it. I grabbed my notebook and a pen, crawled in, and closed the door behind me.
At first, it felt a little silly. But after a few minutes, I started to relax. The soft light, the enclosed space…it was surprisingly calming. I started jotting down some thoughts, just random stuff that came to mind.I have written for half an * feels amazing.
- It’s peaceful
- It’s safe
- It’s my secret place
Reflections: What I Learned
So, after spending a good chunk of time in my makeshift “gray zone burrow,” I realized a few things.
Creating a physical space, even a small one, that feels separate and safe can actually make a difference in how you *…It’s fun!It is like building a secret base when I was a child.
I spent the whole afternoon in the “burrow”.I think I’ll try to do this more * I should make the ‘burrow’ even larger.I can read some books in the ‘burrow’ next time.
I am very excited to my next plan.
