Okay, so I’ve been seeing these “falling water” centerpieces all over social media, and I just had to try making one myself. The idea is to create this illusion of water pouring out of, well, anything, really. I decided to go with a kind of mystical, woodsy vibe, so I picked “ice heart mushroom” as my theme. Sounds cool, right?
First, I gathered my materials. This was a bit of a scavenger hunt, honestly. Here’s what I ended up using:

- A sturdy base (I used an old wooden cutting board)
- A “faucet” (I actually used part of an old lamp)
- Some bendy wire (for the “water” structure)
- Clear hot glue sticks – and I mean, A LOT of them
- Hot glue gun (duh)
- Fake moss
- Some plastic mushrooms I found at a craft store
- Blue and white paint
- A plastic heart shape.
- Something to make it look like “ice”(I used some crushed-up clear plastic)
The first thing I did was secure the “faucet” to the wooden base. I just used a ton of hot glue and some extra wire to make sure it wasn’t going anywhere. This is your main support, so you want it to be really solid.
Next, I took the bendy wire and started shaping the “falling water.” I wanted it to look like it was gushing out and splashing at the bottom. I made a few loops and swirls, trying to make it look as natural as possible. It’s all about creating that dynamic, flowing shape. I attached the top of the wire structure to the faucet, again using plenty of hot glue.
The Glue-tastic Part
Now for the fun part – and the messy part! I started applying the hot glue along the wire. This took FOREVER. I just kept adding layer upon layer of hot glue, slowly building up the “water.” My biggest tip here? Patience! And maybe wear gloves, because that glue gets everywhere. I constantly am burning my finger!
While the glue was still warm (but not scalding!), I started embedding the crushed-up clear plastic to give it that icy look. I just pressed the pieces into the glue, trying to distribute them evenly.
Once the “water” was all glued up and looked sufficiently…watery…I painted some of the hot glue with blue and white paint. This gives it that frosty, icy effect and adds some depth. I mostly focused on the areas where the “water” would be splashing or churning. Not too much, just a hint of color.

Next, I glued the plastic heart in the center, making it the core focus. After, I started adding the fun decorative bits. I glued the fake moss around the base, to make it look like the water was pouring onto a mossy forest floor. Then I stuck the plastic mushrooms around the moss, making it look like they were growing around the “waterfall.”
And…that’s it! It took a while, and my fingers are definitely feeling the burn (literally), but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s definitely a unique centerpiece, and it was way cheaper than buying one of those fancy ones online. My “falling water ice heart mushroom” creation is complete!
