My Grind for the Perfect Retrofit Escapade
Alright, let’s talk about chasing that elusive ‘god roll’. You hear about these perfect weapons, the ones that just feel right and melt everything. Lately, the buzz was all around the Retrofit Escapade machine gun. Heard it was putting in serious work, especially with the right perks. So, naturally, I decided I needed one. The perfect one.
First things first, figuring out where this thing actually drops. It was tied to that whole Season of the Seraph stuff. Mostly meant running those Heist Battlegrounds or trying your luck focusing Umbral Engrams back at the HELM. I decided to dive headfirst into the Heists. Seemed like the most direct way, right?

Hitting the Heist Playlists
So, I started queueing up. Ran one Heist after another. You know the drill. Load in, shoot aliens, grab loot, repeat. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you get absolutely nothing useful. I saw a few Retrofit Escapades drop early on, but the rolls? Garbage. Instant shard fuel, most of them. Perks like Under Pressure or Offhand Strike… not what I was after.
The grind started to wear on me. You do the same activity enough times, it all just blends together. Felt like I was burning hours just staring at loading screens and shooting the same enemies in the same places. My stash of Umbral Engrams started piling up though, so that was something.
Focusing Efforts (and Engrams)
After getting frustrated with the direct drops from Heists, I took my pile of engrams over to the HELM. Figured maybe focusing them would give me better odds. Cost a chunk of Legendary Shards and other materials each time, but hey, gotta spend resources to make resources, or something like that. I started clicking that focus button.
- First focus: Decent roll, but not the magic combo.
- Second focus: Nope, trash perks again.
- Third, fourth, fifth… you get the picture.
It felt like flushing resources down the drain. Got plenty of Retrofits, sure. But the specific combination I wanted just wouldn’t show up. I was specifically hunting for Fourth Time’s the Charm and Target Lock. That combo, everyone said, was the key. Sustained damage for days. Ideally with something like Arrowhead Brake for stability and Tactical Mag for more bullets and faster reloads.
The Moment of Truth
I was close to giving up, honestly. Decided to run just one more Heist before logging off for the night. It was the Moon one, I think. Got through it, kinda zoned out, popped the final chest. Another Retrofit Escapade dropped. Didn’t even get excited initially.
Then I hovered over it. My eyes popped. Arrowhead Brake. Tactical Mag. Fourth Time’s the Charm. And there it was… Target Lock. The whole package. The honest-to-goodness god roll I’d been chasing.

Felt pretty damn good, not gonna lie. After all that grinding, finally seeing those perks line up was a huge relief. You put in the time, you deal with the randomness, and sometimes, just sometimes, it actually pays off.
Was It Worth It?
Yeah, I’d say so. Took the gun out for a spin, started leveling it up. It absolutely shreds. The synergy between Fourth Time’s and Target Lock is real. Boss damage feels way better, even handles groups of tougher enemies nicely. The grind sucked, no doubt about it. RNG can be a cruel master. But landing that perfect roll? Yeah, that feeling keeps you coming back. Now, time to get this thing masterworked and really see what it can do.
