So, I got kinda curious the other day about Sword of Convallaria. Been playing it a bit, you know? And I also have this mild interest in tarot cards – not like I’m an expert, just find them visually interesting. Anyway, the thought popped into my head: what if there were tarot cards based on the game? Seemed like a cool idea, blending those fantasy vibes with the tarot archetypes.
My Little Search
First thing I did was hop online. Just typed in stuff like “Sword of Convallaria tarot” and variations of that. Didn’t expect much, honestly. Maybe some fan art? And yeah, that’s mostly what I found at first. Some really nice pieces, people clearly putting their own spin on matching characters to Major Arcana cards. Took a bit of digging around forums and image sites.

Eventually, I stumbled across a more complete-looking set someone had designed. Not official merch, mind you, definitely fan-made. But the art style was pretty close to the game, and they’d put thought into matching characters and symbols. Looked pretty neat.
I decided, what the heck, let’s try and make a physical version. I didn’t want to spend money ordering something custom, so I just:
- Downloaded the images I liked best (making sure they were decent resolution).
- Bought some slightly thicker paper, like cardstock, from a local shop. Nothing fancy.
- Printed them out on my home printer. Color ink was running a bit low, naturally.
- Spent an evening cutting them out. My cutting wasn’t perfectly straight, gotta admit.
So now I had this rough, homemade deck. The backs were just plain white. Not exactly professional, but tangible.
Playing Around with Them
Holding them felt kinda cool. Seeing the game characters represented this way was interesting. I spread them out on my table just to look at them all. Recognized most of the characters and scenes they used. Some choices made immediate sense, others were more interpretive, I guess.
I don’t really know how to do proper tarot readings. Never learned the spreads or all the deep meanings. So, I just shuffled my homemade deck – which was awkward because the cardstock wasn’t really playing card material – and pulled three cards randomly. Just to see what came up.
I pulled cards representing maybe a specific hero, a dramatic event from the game, and some kind of symbolic item. I didn’t try to predict my future or anything. It was more like using them as prompts. I thought about how those three elements related to each other within the game’s story, or how that character might face that situation. It turned into a little imagination exercise, connecting the dots based on my game knowledge.

Final Thoughts
Was it profound? Nah. But it was a fun little project. Took me from an idle thought to actually making something physical, even if it’s rough. It made me appreciate the effort fan artists put in, and it gave me another way to think about the game’s world and characters. A different lens, you could say.
The cards themselves are sitting on my desk now. Probably won’t use them much for ‘readings’, but they’re a cool, tangible reminder of that little creative detour. Sometimes it’s just satisfying to follow a random spark of curiosity and see where it leads, even if it’s just to a pile of slightly unevenly cut printouts. Made me feel kinda connected to the game and the fan community around it. Worth the bit of printer ink and wonky cutting, I’d say.
