Okay, so I wanted to switch up my desktop background. Got real tired of the boring default stuff, you know? Since I sink a fair bit of time into Overwatch, I figured, why not get something related to that. Seemed like a decent idea.
Finding Something Good
First thing I did was just hop online. Typed in the usual stuff, like “Overwatch desktop background” or “Overwatch wallpaper”. Man, there’s a lot out there. Some official art, which is okay, but kinda standard. Then tons of fan stuff, some really wild, some kinda cool.

Honestly, a lot of it was just too much. Too bright, too many characters crammed in. Not really what I wanted staring back at me all day.
First Try Didn’t Go Well
So, I thought, maybe I’ll just grab a screenshot myself next time I play. Seemed easy enough. Waited for a quiet moment in a match, hit the print screen button. Alt-tabbed out, pasted it into Paint, saved it. Set it as the background.
Big mistake. Looked awful. Resolution was kinda messed up, and worse, you could see bits of the game UI, like the objective marker or whatever. Just looked messy and, frankly, pretty amateur. Not the vibe I was going for.
Getting It Right (Mostly)
Alright, plan B. Forget screenshots. I needed something clean, high-res, and actually designed to be a background. Went back to searching online, but this time I was pickier.
- Looked for simpler designs.
- Focused on landscape shots from the maps, or maybe just the logo.
- Made sure the image size was big enough for my monitor.
Took a while, scrolling through pages. Found a few contenders. Eventually landed on this really nice piece of art. Looked like one of those concept art things, maybe? Showed one of the maps, looked pretty atmospheric. No clutter, just the scenery.
Downloaded that one. It was a decent size file, which was a good sign. Went into my display settings again. Pointed it to the new file. Played around with the fit options – ‘Fill’, ‘Fit’, ‘Stretch’. Think ‘Fill’ worked best, cropped it a little but kept the aspect ratio right.

End Result
And yeah, that’s pretty much it. Looks way better now. Clean, sharp, definitely Overwatch, but not screaming in my face. It’s just a nice, subtle nod to the game. Took a bit more effort than I first thought, especially after the screenshot fail, but worth it in the end. Finally got a desktop I don’t mind looking at.
