Okay, let’s talk about this Godzilla City Smash mode. When it first landed, I jumped right in, pretty excited. But man, my first couple of matches were rough. I wasn’t really sure who to pick, just went with some of my usual favorites.
That didn’t work out so well. Found out pretty quick that just trying to fight other brawlers like normal wasn’t the main goal. You gotta smash those buildings, and you gotta do it fast while dealing with, you know, Godzilla stomping around. My initial picks felt kinda useless against the structures.

Starting the Real Testing
So, I went back to the drawing board. Started thinking, okay, what breaks stuff? Big damage, area damage, right? I decided to try out some brawlers specifically for that.
First up, I tried some throwers. Dynamike seemed like a good idea, lobbing dynamite over walls at buildings. It worked, kinda. Definitely safer than getting up close. But landing all the shots perfectly to maximize damage felt slow, and if anything got close, he just popped.
Then I thought about tanks. Maybe someone who could just walk up and start punching buildings? El Primo came to mind. He’s beefy, and his punches hit a bit of an area. It was better, definitely could take more hits. His Super was also decent for jumping in or out, or just smashing a cluster of buildings.
I also gave Colt a whirl. His main attack is okay for chipping away, but his Super… man, that thing tears through buildings if you line it up right. The problem was actually getting the Super charged and then finding a good angle without getting blasted.
Finding What Actually Worked (For Me)
After a bunch of games, switching brawlers in and out, I started seeing a pattern. The ones who really shined were those who could consistently damage multiple buildings or had Supers that just leveled areas. Survivability was also a big plus because getting knocked out wastes precious smashing time.
Here’s who ended up being my go-to picks after all that trial and error:

- Jessie: This was a bit of a surprise, but hear me out. Her regular shots bounce between buildings if they’re close enough. Really helps clear tight clusters. And her turret, Scrappy? Plonk that down and it just keeps peppering buildings (or distracting the big guy). Consistent damage makes a difference.
- Nita: Bruce! Her bear is amazing in this mode. Throw him down near some buildings and he just goes to town, tanking hits and dealing constant damage. Nita herself can chip away too, and getting Bruce back doesn’t take forever. Great for sustained destruction.
- 8-Bit: Okay, he’s slow as molasses, I know. But his damage output is nuts, especially with his booster turret down. He absolutely melts buildings. You gotta position yourself carefully, maybe stick near teammates, but the raw power was hard to beat for pure smashing speed. His extra life Gadget also helped offset his slow speed sometimes.
- Griff: His main attack spreads out nicely, hitting multiple structures if you aim right. But the real star is his Super. That thing just shreds buildings in a wide path. Charging it up by hitting buildings works well, so you can cycle it reasonably often.
Honorable mention to Penny too. Her mortar turret, if you can place it well behind cover, lobs shots onto buildings constantly. Her splash damage on main attack is also decent against grouped up structures.
Wrapping It Up
So yeah, that was my process. Started clueless, tried a bunch of stuff that didn’t quite fit, and eventually landed on Jessie, Nita, 8-Bit, and Griff as my most reliable choices for actually getting stuff done in Godzilla City Smash. They just seemed to have the right mix of area damage, sustained output, or powerful Supers for wrecking the city efficiently.
Obviously, team composition matters too, and maybe you found someone else works better for your style. But this is what I landed on after spending a good chunk of time actually playing the mode and seeing what worked consistently. Give ’em a try if you’ve been struggling!
