Alright, so I decided to dive back into Overwatch the other day, specifically to check out all the skins for Genji. It’s been a while since I really sat down and looked through everything available for him.
First thing, obviously, I booted up the game. Had to wait for a small update, seems like that happens every time I log in nowadays. Once that was done, I jumped straight into the main menu.

My Little Tour Through Genji’s Wardrobe
Navigated over to the Hero Gallery. That part’s easy enough. Found Genji in the damage roster, gave him a click.
Then I just started scrolling through his skins. Started from the basic ones, the common and rare recolors. Nothing too exciting there, just different paint jobs really. Moved onto the epics – some of those look pretty decent, like Carbon Fiber, always thought that one was slick back in the day.
The real fun starts with the Legendaries, right? Man, there are a ton now. I spent a good bit just clicking through them.
- Saw Young Genji and Sparrow. Those take me back to the early days, simpler times.
- Oni popped up. I remember grinding Heroes of the Storm for that one. Felt like a chore back then, but seeing it again brought back some memories. Not sure I’d do that grind today, though.
- Baihu, Karasu-Tengu, Pacific All-Stars… some really cool designs came out during those seasonal events and special promotions.
- Then you get to the newer stuff, like the Cyber Demon mythic skin. Looks super flashy with all the customizations. It’s impressive, technically, but sometimes I think it’s a bit much.
Just Thinking Out Loud
Looking at all these skins got me thinking. Back when Overwatch first launched, getting a legendary felt huge. You’d see someone with a cool skin and immediately know they either got lucky with a loot box or saved up credits for ages. Now, with the battle passes and the shop, it feels different. Easier to get specific things if you want to pay, I guess, but maybe less special?
It’s funny, I spent maybe 20 minutes just clicking around in the Hero Gallery, looking at skins I mostly already knew existed. It wasn’t really about finding a new skin to use, more just… reminiscing? Seeing how the designs evolved.
I remember trying so hard to learn Genji way back when. Spent hours in the practice range, whiffing Dragonblades left and right in quick play. Never really got great with him, if I’m being honest. Too much pressure. But I always admired the players who could make him dance.

Anyway, after scrolling through everything, even the Overwatch League skins, I didn’t actually change anything. Just closed the gallery. Ended up sticking with my old faithful Sentai skin for now. It’s simple, clean, and green’s my color. Maybe I’ll grab a new one eventually, but for now, just looking was enough for one day.
