Okay, so I’ve been playing a ton of Stardew Valley lately. Seriously, it’s addictive. I decided I needed to catch every single fish, you know, for the achievement and, well, just because. And the walleye? That slippery little sucker was giving me TROUBLE.
First, I had to figure out when and where to even find them. Turns out, walleye are picky. They only come out in the Fall, and only when it’s raining. Plus, you can only catch them in the river (both in town and the forest), the mountain lake, and the forest pond. So, lots of variables! Oh, and did I mention, they’re only out from 12pm to 2am? Yeah, late nights for this virtual farmer.

My first few attempts were… disastrous. I wasted so much time standing by the river on sunny days. Like, duh, Sarah, read the wiki! Once I got the timing and weather right, I still struggled. I was using the basic bamboo pole you start with, and, honestly, my fishing skill was pretty low.
So, I leveled up, I went fishing a lot to make sure I had a good handle on how fishing works.
- Upgraded my rod: I saved up and bought the Fiberglass Rod as soon as I could. It lets you use bait, which is a game-changer.
- Used Bait: Worms are your friend! They make the fish bite faster, giving you more chances to snag a walleye during those precious rainy hours.
- Practiced my fishing: I spent time just catching any fish, just to get the hang of the mini-game. It’s all about keeping that little green bar on the fish icon. My timing got way better.
Finally, one rainy afternoon, I was standing by the river in town, around 6 PM. I cast my line, got a bite, and…bam! The mini-game started. It was a tough one, that walleye was all over the place, but I managed to keep the bar on it just long enough. And there it was! My very own walleye!
It took some serious dedication (and some late nights in front of the computer), but I finally got it. If you’re struggling with the walleye, my advice is to make sure you have all the information and a leveled-up fishing skill. And the most crucial point is to be persistant. Don’t give up. Good luck!
