Okay, so, let’s talk about “MLB The Show” and that whole baserunning thing. I’ve been messing around with it, trying to get it down, and I gotta say, it’s a bit of a pain at first. But, I figured out some stuff that I want to share, ’cause it might help some of you out there.
First off, I turned on all the settings that make the game go faster. You know, skipped all the defensive and baserunning moments that I didn’t really need to watch. I just wanted to get to the juicy parts, right?
Then, I started messing with the actual baserunning controls. Now, the default settings are okay, they let the computer handle most of it, which is fine if you’re just starting out. But I wanted more control, so I switched to analog. That means I use the left stick to point to the runner I want to move and then hit the button for the base I want them to go to. It’s a bit weird at first, feels like you’re rubbing your belly and patting your head, but you get used to it.
How did I control?
- LB or L1: That’s your ticket to moving to the next base. I hit that button and my runner goes zoom!
- RB or R1: If I needed my guy to go back to the previous base, this is what I pressed. Safety first, you know?
- LT or L2: Now, this is the fun one. Stealing bases! I used this to try and swipe a base. Sometimes it worked, sometimes… not so much. But hey, that’s part of the game, right?
I spent a good chunk of time just running the bases in practice mode. Over and over again. I tried different timings, different leads, all that stuff. And you know what? It started to click. I was stealing bases more consistently, getting to second on ground balls, taking that extra base on hits to the outfield. It felt good!
I also dove into the different modes, trying to unlock those “archetypes”. You just gotta grind through those programs, like the “main focus” ones. It’s a bit of a time sink, but hey, you get some cool stuff out of it. Also I found that mastering baserunning is really important in “MLB The Show 23”, and I felt it too. Using this guide and practicing a lot really helped me improve.
Honestly, it just comes down to practice. The more you do it, the better you get. It’s like riding a bike, or maybe more like… I don’t know, doing a really complicated dance move. But once you get it, you get it. And it makes the game way more fun, ’cause you’re not just watching your guys run around, you’re actually making them run around smarter. And then I can smartly put myself on the path to victory, so great!
So, yeah, that’s my little adventure with baserunning in “MLB The Show”. If you’re struggling with it, give these things a try. It might just help you turn those singles into doubles, those doubles into triples, and those outs into… well, not outs.
