He started the whole shebang back in June 2008 after finishin’ up his studies at California State University. But it ain’t just Ted and his wife Diane who played a part in Kyle’s journey. Kyle’s got roots goin’ back to Japan, ya see. His granddaddy, G. Shigeru Higashioka, was a World War II veteran. Now, this here’s somethin’ I think is real special. Shigeru earned a Bronze Star for his service in the 442nd Infantry Regiment, which was a special group of soldiers. What a history, huh? It’s no wonder that Kyle’s got so much heart in what he does—he’s carryin’ on a legacy that goes way back.
Now, Kyle, he’s a ballplayer, and he ain’t just any ballplayer, no sir. He’s a catcher for the San Diego Padres. And it ain’t just his skills that make him stand out, it’s also his ability to connect with folks. Kyle speaks Japanese, sure, but that ain’t all. He also knows Spanish, somethin’ he learned back in high school. That helps him talk to his Latin American teammates and pitchers, makin’ ’em feel more at home. A good teammate can mean all the difference in a game, and from what I hear, Kyle’s got that in spades.

Kyle, along with his teammates, represented the United States, and it sure was somethin’ special to watch.
