Alright, guys, so I decided to finally nail down how to catch that darn Catfish in Stardew Valley. It’s been bugging me for a while, and I figured I’d share my little journey with you all.
Getting Started
First, I remembered Catfish aren’t around all the time. It’s a rainy day thing, and only in certain seasons. So, I checked the wiki, just to be super sure. Spring and Fall, got it. And if it’s raining and you have a Secret Note, it appears in the Witch’s Swamp. Also appears during Summer if it is raining, but only in the Secret Woods.

The Right Spot and Time
- Spring: I made sure it was raining. No rain, no Catfish.
- River: Head to the river in town, and i tried a few spots from the Joja Mart all way to near Leah house.
- Secret Woods: If you have access to secret wood, you can find catfish there.
- Fall: Same deal – gotta be a rainy day.
The Waiting Game (and the Catch!)
I cast my line out, using just regular bait. I tried to put my bobber on the deep water, that is a little far from the river side. Didn’t want to waste the fancy stuff if I didn’t need to. Then… I waited. And waited. It felt like forever, which is the reality of fishing.
Finally, I got a bite! That little fishing mini-game popped up, and man, this thing was fighting! It zipped up and down like crazy. I kept my cool, tapping the button to keep the bar on the fish. Don’t reel too fast, or too slow, steady.
And… BAM! I landed it! My first Catfish! It wasn’t huge, but I was pretty pumped. I repeated this a few more times, just to make sure it wasn’t a fluke. I also catch one in the Secret Woods. Success!
Wrapping Up
Honestly, the key is just patience and knowing when and where to look. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t catch one right away. Keep at it, and you’ll snag that slippery Catfish eventually. Good luck, and happy fishing!
