Okay, so I’ve been getting into golf lately, and I heard about this guy, Rob McNamara. Apparently, he’s a big deal in the golf world. I mean, I’m just starting out, so I didn’t know much about him, but the name kept popping up. So I decided to do some digging and try out some of the stuff he talks about.
First off, I went online and searched for “Rob McNamara golf.” Tons of stuff came up! Videos, articles, the whole nine yards. Turns out, he used to work for this sports company, IMG, and even managed Tiger Woods’ account! How crazy is that? He’s also worked at TGR Ventures, which I think is related to Tiger Woods too.
Getting Started
So, I started with some basic drills. I found this “3-6-9 Putting Drill” that seemed pretty simple. You know, I’m not trying to become a pro overnight, just trying to get the hang of this whole golf thing. The idea is, you set up three balls at 3, 6, and 9 feet from the hole and try to sink them in. Sounds easy, right? Well, it’s not as easy as it sounds, but it definitely helped me get a feel for putting.
Working on My Swing
Next, I watched a bunch of videos about improving your swing. This one guy, James, had a really helpful video about hitting fairway woods. He said if you’re having trouble getting height or making consistent contact, there are three things that can make it easier. I’m not going to lie, I struggle with both of those things. So, I spent a good chunk of time practicing what he showed in the video. It was a lot of trial and error, but I think I started to see some improvement.
Practicing, Practicing, Practicing
I kept at it, trying out different drills and just hitting a lot of balls at the driving range. I’m not going to pretend I became an expert overnight. It’s tough! But I tried to focus on the basics, like the stuff from that James guy’s video, and just getting a better feel for the game. I even went to a few different driving ranges to get a change of scenery and see how different places were set up.
Keeping It Simple
- Finding Rob McNamara: Started by searching for him online and found out about his work with IMG and Tiger Woods.
- Putting Practice: Tried the 3-6-9 putting drill to get a feel for putting distances.
- Swing Tips: Watched videos, especially one by James, about hitting fairway woods and focused on getting more height and consistent contact.
- Lots of Practice: Went to the driving range a lot, tried different drills, and focused on improving my swing.
- Keeping it Real: Didn’t expect to become a pro, just wanted to learn and get better at the game.
Honestly, I’m still not very good, but I’m having fun with it. It’s a challenge, and it’s cool to learn about guys like Rob McNamara and see how the pros do it. I figure if I keep practicing and focusing on the right stuff, I’ll get better over time. Plus, it’s a good excuse to get outside and get some exercise. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll actually be decent at this golf thing!
