Okay, so, today I wanted to do something different. I’m a huge wrestling fan, and Rey Mysterio, that guy is a legend, right? And man, does he have a ton of tattoos! I got curious, like, what do they all mean? So, I went down a rabbit hole, trying to figure it all out.
First, I watched a bunch of videos of Rey. Like, hours of matches and interviews. I was pausing and zooming in, trying to get a good look at his ink. Then, I started taking screenshots and making notes. It’s harder than it sounds because he’s always moving and flipping around!
Next, I started hitting up the internet. I read articles, forum posts, you name it. I even found some interviews where Rey talks about some of his tattoos. One thing I learned is that he supposedly has 37 tattoos in total! That’s a whole lot of ink! It took me days. I found out he’s also known as Oscar Gutierrez Rubio, so that’s another clue i need.
One thing that really got me was this video where he’s talking about the meanings behind some of his tattoos. I was scribbling notes like crazy, trying to catch every detail. His left arm has the year 1976, which is when his uncle, who was like his mentor, started wrestling. And on his right arm, he’s got 1995, which is when Rey himself started wrestling professionally.
I discovered that because he’s always wearing those iconic pants, there aren’t many pictures of the two skeletons he has on his left calf. I’m still trying to piece that one together, too. They must be important if he chose to put them there. Also, he recently got some new hand tattoos of Mexican wrestling legends’ masks, like El Santo and Blue Demon. Pretty cool, right?
Then, there’s this whole story about one of his tattoos about someone named Dominik, who was apparently presented as his son in a wrestling storyline. Turns out, in the story, it was revealed that another wrestler, Guerrero, was Dominik’s real father. It’s like a soap opera, but on his skin! The story goes that Guerrero left Dominik with Rey and his wife, Angie, to raise because Rey was having trouble starting his own family. Crazy, right? But hey, it is professional wrestling, after all.
I also learned that Rey got a lot of his tattoos done by different artists in different places. It’s like he’s collecting them from all over the world. I think it took him about 27 years to get all these tattoos, or at least most of them. And he’s almost 49, which just adds to the legend, right? The man’s a walking piece of art. And he is the master of 619.
So yeah, that’s what I’ve been up to. It’s been a fun little project, and I feel like I’ve learned a lot about Rey Mysterio and the stories behind his ink. I’m still not 100% sure about all of them, but I’m getting there. It’s like a puzzle, and I’m slowly putting the pieces together. Maybe one day I’ll have the whole picture figured out.
