Okay, so I decided to tackle this “plate-up research desk” thing. I’ve been seeing these super organized, minimalist desk setups all over, and honestly, my workspace was a disaster. So, time for a change!
The Purge
First, I took everything off my desk. And I mean everything. It was pretty horrifying to see how much junk I had accumulated. Old papers, random cables, dust bunnies the size of actual bunnies… you get the picture.

I sorted through it all, ruthlessly. I had three piles: trash, donate, and keep. It felt good to get rid of stuff. Really good.
The Deep Clean
Next up, I wiped down the entire desk surface. I found some sticky residue from who-knows-what, so I grabbed some cleaner and really scrubbed at it. It was like an archaeological dig, uncovering the original desk color.
The Layout Planning (Sort Of)
Now for the fun part! I laid out my essential gear: my laptop, monitor, keyboard, and mouse. I’m a simple man, I am. I played around with the positioning a bit, trying to find something that felt ergonomic and, you know, aesthetic.
Cable Management (My Nemesis)
- I attempted to wrangle the cables. This is always the worst part.
- I used some cable ties and clips.
- I hid the cables as much as possible.
It’s not perfect, but it’s a heck of a lot better than the tangled mess I had before.
The Finishing Touches
Finally, I added a few small touches: a plant (fake, because I kill real ones), a small lamp and my mug for pens.
The desk looks good with the stuff in order. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s definitely a more inspiring space to work in. Now, let’s see how long I can keep it this clean…
