Okay, so I wanted to find out which Pittsburgh Pirates pitchers have won 20 games in a season. I’ve always been a huge Pirates fan, and this was something I was curious about.
First, I started by looking up a list of all the Pirates’ pitchers. Man, there have been a lot of them over the years! It took some time to go through all those names, but it was kind of fun to see all the different guys who have played for my team.
Then, I started digging into the stats for each pitcher. I had to check out each season they played and see how many wins they had. Some of them got close to 20, but not quite. Others, well, they weren’t even in the ballpark (pun intended!).
- I started by checking out some of the older players. It was pretty cool to see how the game has changed over the years.
- Then I moved on to some of the more recent guys. Some of them I even remember watching when I was a kid!
After a lot of searching, I finally found the guys who actually hit that 20-win mark. It was like finding a hidden treasure! Here’s what I came up with:
- Ed Morris: He did it back in 1886, with 41 wins! That’s a crazy number.
- Jack Chesbro: This guy got 28 wins in 1902. Another awesome achievement.
- Deacon Phillippe: He hit 20 wins in 1903 and 24 wins in 1905.
- Vic Willis: He had 27 wins in 1902.
- Howie Camnitz: He made it to 25 wins in 1909.
- Babe Adams: He was close with 22 wins in 1909.
- Wilbur Cooper: He won 22 games in 1921 and 20 games in 1924.
- Ray Kremer: He had exactly 20 wins in both 1927 and 1930.
- Vern Law: He got to 20 wins in 1960.
- Bob Friend: He had 22 wins in 1958.
- John Candelaria: He won 20 games in 1977.
- Doug Drabek: He finished with 22 wins in 1990.
It was a lot of work, but it was definitely worth it. I learned a lot about the Pirates’ history and some of the great pitchers who have played for them. I might do something similar again in the future, maybe look at some other teams or stats. We’ll see!
