Alright, let’s talk about them golf fellas, the ones on the TV. You know, the PGA Tour guys. They hit that little white ball a country mile, don’t they? I heard someone sayin’ somethin’ about how fast they swing them clubs. Sounded like a bunch of mumbo jumbo to me, but I reckon it’s important if you wanna knock that ball far.
Them Big Sticks, Them Drivers
Now, they tell me these fellas swing their drivers, that’s the big club, you know, the one you use first, at somethin’ like 115 miles an hour. Can you believe that? Faster than my old pickup truck going downhill, I tell ya! And when they hit that ball, it goes flyin’, I mean really flyin’. They say it goes about 282 yards in the air. That’s like three football fields, maybe more! And that little ball, it’s zoomin’ at 171 miles an hour when it leaves the club. Just imagine that! It don’t even go that high up, only about 35 yards, but it sure does travel.
- Driver speed: Around 115 mph
- Ball speed: Around 171 mph
- Carry distance: About 282 yards
Them Other Clubs, Irons and Such
Now, they got a whole bunch of other clubs in that bag, all different shapes and sizes. I can’t make heads or tails of ’em, but they tell me each one is for a different kind of shot. And them fellas, they swing them all pretty darn fast too.
They got this one club, a 3-iron they call it, and they swing that at somethin’ like 99 miles an hour. Still fast, ain’t it? Then, for each club after that, they swing a little bit slower. Like, the 4-iron is 97 miles an hour, the 5-iron is 95, the 6-iron is 93, and so on. The 7-iron goes about 91, the 8-iron is 89, and that 9-iron, well, that’s about 87 miles an hour. Still faster than I can throw a biscuit to my dog, that’s for sure!
Why All This Speed Matters
Now, you might be askin’, why does all this speed matter? Well, I reckon it’s ’cause the faster you swing, the further that ball goes. And in golf, them fellas wanna hit that ball as far as they can. Especially on them long holes, you know, the ones that are like 500 yards long. If you can smack that ball a good long way, it makes gettin’ to the green a whole lot easier.
More Than Just Speed, Though
But it ain’t just about speed, you know. Them fellas gotta hit that ball straight too. And they gotta know which club to use for which shot. And they gotta have a good short game, around the green. There’s a lot more to it than just swingin’ hard, I tell ya. But that speed, that’s a big part of it. That’s what gets that ball flyin’ way out there.
Overall Average Speed, A Big Number
So, when they talk about the average speed of them PGA Tour fellas, they say it’s more than 110 miles per hour. That’s just an average. Some of ‘em swing even faster than that, I betcha. And that ball speed, that’s even faster, more than 160 miles an hour for the good players. No wonder they hit it so far!
So, there you have it. A little bit about how fast them PGA Tour fellas swing them golf clubs. It’s mighty impressive, even if I don’t understand all the ins and outs of it. All I know is, they hit that ball a long, long way.
Just think about it, more than 110 miles per hour! That’s fast. No wonder them golf balls go so far. It’s a whole different world from my backyard, I’ll tell you that.
And they do it with all them different clubs. Each one with its own speed, for its own job. It’s like a toolbox, I guess. You need the right tool for the job, and you gotta know how to use it.
But remember, it ain’t just about swinging hard. You gotta be accurate too. And you gotta have a good touch around the green. There’s a lot to it, golf is.
