Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this thing called Patreon, you know, where creators can get paid directly by their fans. Well, today, I wanted to see if it was actually working or not, a kind of “out of action” test.
First, I opened my browser and typed in the Patreon website in the search bar. The page loaded up, and I was looking at all these different creators I follow. So far, so good, it seemed to be working.
- Checked if the website was up.
- Confirmed I could see my followed creators.
Then, I decided to check out some user reports. I figured if there were any issues, someone would’ve posted about it somewhere. I spent a good chunk of time scrolling through some websites, seeing if anyone was complaining about Patreon being down or login problems. Looks like there were no big complaints recently.
But I know that Patreon had some issues last year, in September 2022, to be exact. They laid off a bunch of people, like 17% of their workers, and even closed a couple of offices. I guess that caused some problems then, but it doesn’t seem like it’s related to what I’m checking today.
I also learned that most of the folks using Patreon to get funding are from the US, almost 70%. There are some from the UK and Canada too, but the US is where most of them are at. And it’s not just small creators using it, even some big businesses are on there getting paid for their stuff.
After looking around, I tried to simulate a typical user action. I picked one of my favorite creators and attempted to check their payment page. Everything seemed to work fine. The page loaded without a hitch, and I could see all the different tiers and rewards.
Findings
So, from what I experienced today, Patreon seems to be up and running just fine. No issues with the site being down or logging in. My little “out of action” test didn’t find anything wrong, which is good news for all the creators and fans using the platform. It looks like the problems they had last year are all sorted out, at least for now.
Anyway, that was my little adventure today, checking out if Patreon was working. Seemed like a normal day on the internet, nothing out of the ordinary. Just another day being curious and poking around online!
