Okay, let’s dive into my little project today – making a “shenhe skin”.
I started this whole thing because, well, I was bored and I really like the character’s design. I figured, why not try to recreate it somehow? I’m no artist, but I like messing around with stuff.

Getting Started
First, I needed a base. So, I opened up the game and spent a good chunk of time just staring at shenhe. Seriously, just rotating the model, zooming in, taking screenshots from every possible angle. I wanted to really understand the outfit, the colors, the little details that make it unique.
Next up was gathering materials. My first try isn’t a drawing or anything,I was trying to use some basic tools.
- I grabed the base models.
- Next, I went online to download some free tools that could help me change the skins.
- And,of course, I got reference pictures of shenhe!
The Messy Middle
Honestly, this is where things got… interesting. I thought I had a handle on it, but the more I tweaked, the more I realized how much I didn’t know. Getting the color palette right was a struggle. I spent like, an hour just trying to match the shade of blue on her outfit. I used the eye-dropper tool a million times, comparing it to my screenshots, and still felt like it was off.
Then there were the patterns. Oh boy, the patterns. Her outfit has these intricate designs, and let me tell you, replicating those with basic shapes was a challenge. I ended up simplifying a lot of it, just to keep my sanity. I also had to redo the sleeves like, three times. They just wouldn’t cooperate!
The Final Touches (and Frustration)
After a few hours of wrestling with it, I finally had something that… resembled shenhe. It definitely wasn’t perfect, not even close, but it was recognizable! I added some final touches, trying to mimic the flowy-ness of her outfit, but my skills could only go so far. I am a beginner!
The biggest frustration? Probably the details. I really wanted to capture all the little things, but I just couldn’t. It made me appreciate the original design even more, though. The artists who created her are seriously talented.
What I Did
- Familiarized myself with the target game or platform’s modding tools and guidelines.
- Gathered reference images and resources to ensure accuracy in the skin’s design.
- Used image editing software to create or modify textures, colors, and details of the character’s appearance.
- Tested the skin in-game to check for any visual issues or glitches.
- After I got the basics, I started learning about 3D modeling. Blender, baby! It’s free, and there are tons of tutorials online.
The Result
In the end, I didn’t create a masterpiece. But I did learn a lot. I gained a new appreciation for character design, and I had fun experimenting. Would I do it again? Maybe! But next time, I’ll definitely start with something simpler. Baby steps, right?
It’s rough, it’s amateur, but it’s mine. And I’m kind of proud of that.
