Today, I decided to organize my fragrance materials, and let me tell you, it was a journey! I’ve been collecting essential oils, aroma chemicals, and all sorts of smelly things for a while now, and it was definitely time for some serious organization.
Getting Started
First, I gathered all my materials. They were scattered everywhere – some in boxes, some on shelves, some just…lying around. It was a mess! I dumped everything onto a big table so I could see what I was working with.

Sorting it out
- I started by separating the essential oils from the synthetics.
- Then, I grouped the essential oils by scent family – florals, woods, citruses, you get the idea.
- For the aroma chemicals, I organized them alphabetically, because honestly, I don’t know enough about them yet to categorize them any other way!
The Container Conundrum
Next up was figuring out how to store everything. I had a bunch of little amber glass bottles, which are perfect for protecting the oils from light. I labeled each bottle carefully with the name of the material and the date I opened it. This is super important because some of these things can degrade over time, and you don’t want to be using old, funky-smelling stuff in your creations.
Putting It All Away
Finally, I found some sturdy boxes with dividers to hold all the bottles. Everything is now neatly organized and easy to find. It’s such a relief! I can actually see what I have, and it makes me excited to start experimenting with new blends.
It was a bit of a chore, but totally worth it. My workspace feels so much more functional now, and I’m ready to dive back into the world of scent!
