Okay, so I’ve been playing a lot of Stardew Valley lately, and I was always running out of Refined Quartz. Seriously, it’s used in so many crafting recipes! I needed to find a reliable way to get more, so I did some digging and experimenting. Here’s what I figured out.
Getting Started: The Recycling Route
At first, I thought, “Hey, I’ll just recycle all the Broken CDs and Glasses I get from fishing!” It seemed like a good idea, right? I placed a Recycling Machine and started feeding it all my trash.

- Pros: It’s super easy to get Broken CDs and Glasses, especially if you’re not that great at fishing (like me, haha).
- Cons: It takes a while, and you don’t always get Refined Quartz. Sometimes you just get plain old Quartz or other junk.
I used this method for a bit, but it wasn’t fast enough. I needed more Refined Quartz, and I needed it now.
Level Up: The Furnace!
Then, I remembered the Furnace! I already had one for smelting ore, so I figured I’d try throwing some regular Quartz in there. It was a total “Eureka!” moment.
I gathered a bunch of Quartz from the mines – I usually find a decent amount on levels 1-39. Then, I loaded the Furnace with one Quartz and one piece of Coal (don’t forget the Coal, or it won’t work!).
I waited… and boom! One Refined Quartz. It was way faster than the Recycling Machine, and I could control exactly how much I made.
- Gather Quartz from the mines (levels 1-39 are a good start).
- Get Coal (you can mine it, buy it from Clint, or use a Charcoal Kiln).
- Put one Quartz and one Coal into the Furnace.
- Wait for it to finish smelting.
From that, I realized that with my extra fire quartz, I could also get Refined Quartz as well, by doing the exact same thing.
My Go-To Method
Now, I almost exclusively use the Furnace method. It’s just so much more efficient. If I have spare time and some trash, then I will dump my extra trash for recycling. I spend a day in the mines, gather a ton of Quartz and Coal, and then spend the evening smelting it all into Refined Quartz. My crafting projects are finally progressing at a decent pace!

So, that’s my journey to Refined Quartz mastery. Hope this helps you out on your farm!
