Okay, so I spent some time the other day specifically trying to track down all the dog locations in Genshin Impact. It wasn’t exactly planned, more like one of those things you just start doing.
Getting Started – Why Dogs?
Honestly, I think I saw someone mention needing to interact with animals for some achievement or maybe it was for the Serenitea Pot replica stuff? Can’t quite recall the exact trigger. But suddenly, I realized I’d seen plenty of cats, but where were all the dogs hiding? I knew they were around, just never paid them much attention. So, I figured, why not make a little project out of it? Find the pups.

My first approach was pretty dumb, looking back. I just started wandering around the main cities. Mondstadt first, then Liyue Harbor. I figured, you know, cities have pets. I found a few this way, sure. There’s that one usually hanging around near the Adventurers’ Guild in Mondstadt, and a couple patrolling the docks in Liyue.
Making it Systematic (Sort Of)
Just wandering wasn’t cutting it. I kept seeing the same few dogs. Felt like I was missing loads. So, I decided to be a bit more methodical. I didn’t want to just pull up a map guide instantly, that feels like cheating sometimes, takes the fun out of it? But I did start making mental notes, and then actual rough notes on a piece of scrap paper.
I started thinking about where dogs would realistically be. Farms, villages, outside shops maybe. So I expanded my search.
- Springvale: Remembered seeing one there, near the hunters. Found him again.
- Qingce Village: That place is crawling with life, figured there’d be dogs. Yep, found a couple there too, usually near the houses or fields.
- Liyue Harbor (again, but better): This time I properly walked all the levels and back alleys. Found a few more I’d missed, especially up on the higher terraces near the buildings. There’s that Shiba Inu looking one, pretty distinct.
- Wangshu Inn: Checked around the base and even on the inn balconies. Think I saw one near the kitchen area downstairs.
The Grind and The Finds
It turned into a bit of a grind, teleporting from place to place. Inazuma was next on my list. This felt different. The dogs there look distinct, those Shiba Inu types mainly. Found some near the main city, Ritou docks had one I think, and definitely some wandering around near the shrines and villages on the other islands.
Important thing I noticed: Some dogs seem to have little patrol routes, they don’t just stand still. So sometimes you gotta wait a sec or walk around the immediate area. Others just seem to nap in the same spot most of the time. Made it slightly more interesting than just ticking boxes off a list.
I specifically remember spending ages looking for one someone mentioned was near a specific waypoint in Inazuma, only to find it slightly further away than I expected, just chilling under a tree. Felt like a small victory, that one.

Wrapping Up
So, after a couple of sessions doing this, I felt like I had a pretty good handle on most dog spots. Did I find every single one? Probably not. Did I get whatever achievement or thing I vaguely thought I needed them for? Still not sure, I forgot to check! Classic.
But it was a decent way to kill some time, actually made me explore some familiar places more thoroughly than I usually do. Just running around, looking for digital dogs. Kinda relaxing in its own way. Now, cats on the other hand… that’s a whole other story.
