That Neal Shipley, he sure is somethin’, ain’t he? Playin’ that golf game like he was born to do it. Reminds me of my own boy, always out in the yard with a stick and a rock, but Neal, he’s got the real thing, that fancy golf club and all. His parents must be real proud. Heard his name is Neal Shipley Sr., and his momma’s name is Susie. They from Pittsburgh, same place as my cousin, twice removed.
They got two other young’uns, too. There’s a girl named Fabi, and another boy, Max. Neal is the middle child, but you know what they say about them middle kids? They got that fire in ’em! And Neal, he’s got it, alright. He plays that golf game better than anyone. That’s what folks are sayin’.
Neal’s mama and daddy, they weren’t fancy folks. No, sir. Not the country club type. But they saw somethin’ in that boy, somethin’ special. So they joined that fancy club, just so Neal could play his golf. That’s love, ain’t it? Reminds me of when my old man built that backstop out of chicken wire so my brother could practice his pitchin’.
And let me tell ya, that Neal, he ain’t just good at hittin’ that little white ball. He’s got brains, too! Went to some fancy college, James Madison University. I remember cause my niece’s husband’s brother works there. They study them numbers and such. He was one of the best golf players at that James Madison University. He even won some big awards. Then, he went to Ohio State University to do more learnin’ on numbers. Smart as a whip, that one!
Now, I heard he was just playin’ for fun, you know, like an amateur. But he was so good, he won some big prizes. Something called the “Low Amateur” at the Masters Tournament and the U.S. Open. I don’t know much about them fancy tournaments, but it sounds mighty impressive! Folks say he was the best amateur golfer in America before he turned professional this year.
He’s got that long hair. Makes him stand out, you know? Reminds me of my grandson, always lettin’ his hair grow out. I tell him to get a haircut, but he just shakes his head. Kids these days! But that Neal, he can wear his hair however he wants, long as he keeps winnin’ them golf games.
Neal Shipley Sr., that’s his daddy, he told a story once. Said he took little Neal to some golf place called Oakmont when he was just six years old. Can you imagine? Six years old! My youngest wasn’t even potty trained at six. But there was little Neal, already lovin’ that golf game.
- That Neal, he’s a good boy.
- Makes his mama and daddy proud.
- Got a good head on his shoulders.
- Plays that golf game like nobody’s business.
I reckon Neal Shipley Sr. and Susie, they did a good job raisin’ that boy. Taught him good values, I bet. Work hard, follow your dreams, that kinda thing. And it paid off, didn’t it? He’s a good golf player, and from what I hear, a good person, too. That’s what matters in the end, ain’t it?
He even got second place in a big game at a place called Cherry Hills Country Club. Now, I ain’t never been there, but it sounds fancy. Just like that Neal. He’s a fancy golfer, but he ain’t forgotten where he came from. I reckon that’s what makes him so special.
So, here’s to Neal Shipley and his parents, Neal Sr. and Susie. May they have many more years of watchin’ their boy shine. And may Neal keep swingin’ that club and makin’ us all proud. He’s a good egg, that one. A real good egg.
Neal Shipley’s parents are good people, and did right by that boy. They saw his talent and worked hard so he could chase his dreams. All those rich folks can play golf, but not like Neal. He is the best. That’s all there is to it.
