Okay, so I saw this “natalie reynolds painted” thing trending, and I was like, “I gotta try this!” I’m no artist, but it looked fun, so I figured, why not?
Getting Started
First, I needed supplies. I didn’t have a lot of stuff on hand, so I made a quick trip to the local store. I grabbed:

- A canvas: I got a medium-sized one, nothing too intimidating.
- Acrylic paints: I picked a basic set with a bunch of colors. I figured I could mix them to get whatever shades I needed.
- Brushes: I got a few different sizes, some flat ones and some round ones. Honestly, I just grabbed what looked good.
- A palette: I used an old plate.
- Water cup: For cleaning the brushes, of course.
The Messy Part (aka the Painting Process)
So, I laid down some newspaper on my table – gotta protect the furniture, you know? Then, I just… started. I didn’t really have a plan. I looked at some of Natalie Reynolds’s work for inspiration. Hers are amazing, so vibrant and full of emotion! Mine… not so much, at least not at first.
I started by squirting some paint onto my plate-palette. Then I dipped a brush in some blue and just kind of… slapped it on the canvas. I’m not gonna lie, it looked pretty bad at first. Just a big blob of blue.
But I kept going. I added some white, blended it a bit. Then I tried some yellow, some red… It was totally random, but I was having fun! I experimented with different brushstrokes – some long, some short, some dabbed. I even used my fingers a few times to smudge the paint around.
The “Aha!” Moment
I don’t know how long I was painting, but at some point, things started to kind of… click. The colors started to blend in a way that I liked. It wasn’t perfect, far from it, it’s still a mess, but it was starting to look like something. It was abstract, for sure, but it had some energy to it, some feeling.
The Finished Product (Well, Sort Of)
I finally decided to stop when I felt like I was going to overwork it. I’m sure I could have kept going, adding more details, refining things. But I also knew I could easily mess it up completely. So I stepped back, took a look, and thought, “Yeah, that’s… good enough.”
It’s definitely not a masterpiece. It’s not even close to Natalie Reynolds’s level of skill. But you know what? I made it. And I had a blast doing it. It was messy, it was unpredictable, and it was totally freeing. That’s What I want.
