Okay, so, I was really curious about how much Munguia made fighting Canelo last Saturday, May 4th. I mean, it was a big fight, Mexico vs. Mexico, right?
First, I started digging around to find out more about the fight itself. It was Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia. Apparently, everyone’s been talking about the purse and payouts, but nobody seems to know the exact numbers for sure.
I kept searching and found out that Canelo won the 12-round fight. He kept his WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO super middleweight titles. The judges scored it 117-110, 116-111, and 115-112. Sounds like Canelo pretty much dominated, huh? But, I’m still wondering about the money.
Then I stumbled upon something interesting. Some guy named Dan Rafael, who seems to know a thing or two about boxing, said that both fighters had a lot at stake. Obviously! But what does that mean in terms of dollars?
I continued reading, and finally, I got some kind of answer. Rafael said that after the fight, Canelo not only kept his belts but also took home a purse of over $30 million! That’s a huge chunk of change. I’m still wondering about Munguia’s share.
My Thoughts
- It’s crazy how much money these guys make for one fight. Over $30 million for Canelo!
- I guess the exact figures are a secret, but it’s fun to speculate.
- Even though Munguia lost, he probably still made a good amount of money.
Anyway, that’s what I found out. It was a fun little investigation. Now I’m even more curious about the business side of boxing. It’s more than just punches and knockouts, that’s for sure!
