Today I tried to make some music on my own. I’m no expert, but I love messing around with different sounds and styles. I started by thinking about the kind of music I wanted to make. I’ve always been into ’80s college rock and ’90s alt-rock, but I also like pop and folk, so I thought, why not try to mix them up a bit?
I grabbed my guitar and started strumming some chords. Nothing fancy, just some basic stuff to get a feel for the melody. Then I started to hum a tune. I recorded it on my phone so I wouldn’t forget it. It’s a bit rough, but it’s got a nice vibe to it.

- Played guitar: Just basic chords to lay down a foundation.
- Hummed a melody: Recorded it on my phone. It’s rough but has potential.
Next, I moved to my computer. I’ve got this music software that I’ve been playing with for a while. It’s not professional-grade or anything, but it does the job. I started laying down some drum tracks. I wanted something with a bit of an ’80s feel, so I went for a simple, driving beat. It sounded pretty good with the guitar chords I had recorded earlier.
- Used music software: It’s basic, but it works for me.
- Created drum tracks: Aimed for an ’80s vibe. Simple and driving.
After that, I added some bass. I don’t have a real bass guitar, so I used the one in the software. I kept it simple, just following the root notes of the chords. It added a nice depth to the track. I spent a good chunk of the day just tweaking things here and there, adding a few synth sounds, trying out different effects. It’s a lot of trial and error, but it’s fun.
- Added bass: Used the software’s virtual bass. Kept it simple, followed the root notes.
- Experimented with synths and effects: Lots of trial and error, but it’s fun to see what works.
The Outcome
By the end of the day, I had something that resembled a song. It’s not going to win any awards, but I’m pretty happy with it. It’s got a bit of that ’80s rock feel, mixed with some ’90s vibes, and a touch of pop. It’s messy, it’s raw, but it’s mine. I saved the project and listened to it a few times. I’ll probably come back to it in a few days and see if I can improve it, maybe add some vocals or refine the mix. But for now, I’m calling it a day. Making music is a blast, even if it’s just for fun. You should try it sometime!
Played back the track: Listened a few times. Will come back to it later.
Saved the project: It’s rough, but it’s a start.
Reflected on the process: It’s fun, even if it’s just a hobby.
