Alright, so you wanna know about this Mets and Padres baseball match, huh? Them city slickers, always fussin’ over numbers and stats. Well, lemme tell ya, I don’t know nothin’ ’bout fancy stats, but I can tell ya who won and who didn’t. That’s all that matters, ain’t it?
Heard on the radio the other day, the Mets, they whupped the Padres somethin’ fierce. Beat ’em 8-3, they said. That Severino fella, he pitched real good, shut them Padres down. And that Cease boy for the Padres, well, he wasn’t so lucky, I reckon. Got lit up like a firecracker on the Fourth of July.
Then there was that other game, real nail-biter, it was. Padres, they won by a hair, 3-2. Some young fella, Merrill, hit a home run right at the end. Broke the Mets’ hearts, it did. That Alonso fella for the Mets, he hit the ball real hard, drove in a bunch of runs, but it wasn’t enough, not that day.
Seems like these two teams, they play each other a lot. Always fightin’ like cats and dogs. Heard they played a series back in 2022, a Wild Card thingy. Padres, they won that one, two games to one. Mets, they choked, plain and simple. But this year, looks like the Mets are doin’ a bit better. At least against the Padres, anyway.
Now, they talk about all these numbers, like batting averages and win-loss records. Says here the Mets had a 5-2 record against the Padres last year. Batted .251, whatever that means. Sounds fancy, but all I care about is who wins the game. You can have all the fancy numbers you want, but if you don’t score more runs, you ain’t gonna win nothin’. That’s just common sense, ain’t it?
- The Mets beat the Padres 8-3 in one game. Severino pitched good.
- The Padres beat the Mets 3-2 in another game. Merrill hit a walk off homer.
- Padres won a Wild Card series against the Mets in 2022, 2-1.
- Mets had a 5-2 record against the Padres in 2024 and batted .251.
They say these teams have played each other a whole bunch of times. Hundreds of games, apparently. Somethin’ like 262 wins for the Padres and 259 for the Mets. Pretty close, if you ask me. Guess that means they’re pretty evenly matched. Makes for excitin’ games, though, I’ll give ’em that.
Anyways, I don’t pay too much attention to all the details. Just watch the game, cheer for whoever I feel like cheerin’ for that day. Sometimes it’s the Mets, sometimes it’s the Padres. Depends on who’s playin’ better, I guess. And who’s got the prettiest uniforms, ha! Just kiddin’, mostly.
So, if you’re lookin’ for all them fancy stats and numbers, you’re gonna have to go look somewhere else. I just tell it like I see it. Mets and Padres, they’re good teams, they play hard, and they like to beat each other. That’s all there is to it.
And next time they play, I’ll be watchin’, you can bet on that. Maybe with a nice glass of sweet tea and some cornbread. Now that’s what I call a good time.
One more thing , I heard that Pete Alonso fella for the Mets had a game with five RBIs, not bad for a city slicker. But like I said, it’s all about winning, ain’t it? You can hit all the balls you want, but if you don’t score, it’s just noise. And these boys make a lot of noise!
So there you have it, my take on the Mets and the Padres. Not too fancy, but it’s the truth as I see it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I got some chores to do. Them chickens ain’t gonna feed themselves, you know.
