Okay, so, about “Canelo’s Siblings.” I’ve gotta tell you, this was a bit of a rabbit hole. I started simple, just wanting to know who Canelo Alvarez’s brothers were, since I knew a few of them were also boxers.
First, I looked up his family background. Turns out, Canelo’s the youngest of eight kids, and seven of them are boys! His parents, Santos Alvarez and Ana Maria Barragan, moved the whole family from Michoacan to Jalisco back in the 90s, just trying to make a better life. They even sold ice pops at the market to make ends meet. Ana Maria Barragan, she’s Canelo’s mom, by the way. Apparently, she and Canelo’s dad split up at some point.
Then, I dug into each of his brothers. All seven of those boys ended up becoming professional boxers. I focused on three of them: Ramón, Ricardo, and Rigoberto. Rigoberto even held a WBA interim world title at one point!
- Ramón Álvarez, he’s a welterweight, just like Rigoberto and Ricardo.
- Ricardo Álvarez, yeah, another welterweight.
- Rigoberto Álvarez, the one with the title.
After that, I got a bit sidetracked and checked out Canelo’s personal life. He’s quite the family man, that Canelo, with a close relationship with his four kids, his siblings, his family and of course his mother. He’s got four children, each with a different woman. His first, Emily, was with his childhood sweetheart, Karen Beltran. They split up after Emily was born, but he’s still involved in her life. His second kid, Mia Ener, is with a model named Valeria Quiroz.
Lastly, I found a fun fact: Canelo was actually bullied as a kid because of his red hair! But look at him now – turned pro at 15, became Mexico’s youngest world champion at 20, and he’s now a 4-weight world champion at 34. That’s what I call an incredible career.
So, yeah, that’s what I learned about Canelo and his siblings. It was definitely more than I expected to find, but pretty interesting stuff!
