Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into Marvel Contest of Champions (MCOC) again lately, and as always, I got sucked into the whole tier list debate. Who’s the best? Who should I rank up? It’s a never-ending cycle, right? So, I decided to finally make my own MCOC tier list for 2024, based on my own gameplay and experiences.
The Initial Research
First, I scoured the usual places – the MCOC subreddit, YouTube videos from big names, and a few of those infographic tier lists that float around. I wanted to see what the general consensus was before forming my own opinions. I gotta say, it’s overwhelming! Everyone has their favorites and their reasons, which is cool, but it makes it tough to find solid ground.

Getting My Hands Dirty
Next, I jumped into the game. No point making a tier list without actually playing, right? I focused on a few key areas:
- Alliance Quest (AQ): How well do champs handle the different paths and bosses?
- Alliance War (AW): Who are the top attackers and defenders?
- Story Content/Event Quests: Can they clear content efficiently and reliably?
- Special Quests like Variant or Abyss: Do they have niche uses?
The Ranking Process
I created a simple spreadsheet. I’m no Excel wizard, so I just jotted down the names of the champs I’ve been using, and then I started categorizing them. I used to put them in S, A, B, C, and sometimes D. I kept these categories pretty broad.
- S-Tier: The absolute best. Game-changers.
- A-Tier: Really, really good. Great for almost everything.
- B-Tier: Solid choices. Useful in many situations.
- C-Tier: More niche. They have their uses, but not always.
- D-Tier: I do not use them very often.
Trial and Error
It wasn’t all smooth sailing. Some champs I initially thought were amazing turned out to be less impressive in certain situations. Others I’d overlooked surprised me with their utility. For example, I used to underrate a champion, but after really learning their rotations and synergies, I moved them way up my list. That champion is great for specific matchups. I had to re-evaluate some of my initial choices and make adjustments.
The Final Product
Finally, after a few weeks of playing, researching, and tweaking, I had something that resembled a tier list. It’s not perfect, and it’s definitely subjective, but it’s based on my experience in the game as of early 2024. I feel pretty good about it, It’s a solid representation of how I view the current meta. I made it for my own current record.
The main takeaway? Tier lists are helpful as guidelines, but don’t take them as gospel. Play the game, experiment with different champs, and find what works best for you.
