Alright, so I messed around with the Infernal Engine and the mechanic in Baldur’s Gate 3 today. Let me tell you, it was a bit of a trip!
First, I tracked down Karlach. You can’t really do anything with this Infernal Engine stuff without her, you know?

Finding Dammon
Next, I needed to find Dammon. He’s the Tiefling blacksmith, and apparently, he is the man when it comes to this Infernal Iron. At first, I spent some time looking for him at the Druid Grove, you know, that’s where you first meet him. He’s ususally there and It took me a few minutes but I did, in fact find him!
Gathering Infernal Iron
- I remembered reading something online about needing Infernal Iron, so I already had some.
- If you don’t have any you can do things like go check out the Blighted Village. I had to reload a slightly earlier save. I just fast-traveled over there.
- I rummaged through some chests and looted some goblins. Eventually, I had a couple of pieces.
The First Engine Fix
Once I had the iron and Dammon, I talked to him, chose the right dialogue options, and boom. He tinkered with Karlach’s Infernal Engine. I could select the option that used the Infernal Iron, and then he did the fix.
The Second Improvement
I found out you can actually do a second upgrade! So, I had to get more Infernal Iron for Dammon. Luckily, I only needed to fast travel back the the Blighted Village again and do a little more looting.
Then back to Dammon again, the whole process with the dialog, and bam! Second upgrade done. Karlach seemed pretty happy, and I gotta say, it felt good to help her out.
Overall, it’s not super complicated, it’s just about finding the right people and the right materials. Just follow the quest, talk to everyone, and you’ll figure it out. It’s pretty cool seeing how it all plays out!
