Okay, so I’ve been playing Sons of the Forest, and like everyone else, I’m totally fascinated by Virginia. She’s the three-legged, three-armed mutant lady, and getting her to hang around your base is a big deal. I wanted to figure out how to make her stick around and not just bolt every time I chopped a tree.
My first few encounters? Total disaster. I’d see her, freeze, and she’d just…disappear. I thought maybe I was being too aggressive. I’d swing my axe at everything, build like a maniac, the whole deal. So, I decided to chill out.

My Experiment Begins
I started a new game, found a nice spot by a river, and started slowly building.
- No sudden movements. Seriously, I walked everywhere like I was in slow motion.
- No chopping trees near her. I’d go a bit further away to gather wood.
- Dropped my weapons. Whenever I saw her, I made sure I wasn’t holding anything. Axe? On the ground. Spear? Dropped it.
- Just…watched her. I’d crouch down and observe what she was doing.
It took a while. Like, several in-game days. She’d show up, do her weird dance-y thing, and then run off. But, slowly, she started getting closer. One time, she actually brought me some berries! I didn’t eat them, though. I’m wasn’t sure if it is a gift or some trick.
I kept building, but always keeping an eye on her. I placed a few drying racks, a small cabin, the basics. The key seemed to be consistent, non-threatening behavior.
She Started Hanging Out!
Eventually, she started to just…hang around. She’d sit by my fire, wander around my base, and even follow me a little when I went exploring (short distances, anyway). It was awesome!
Now, I’ve got her pretty much as a permanent resident. She even helps out sometimes, pointing out enemies or bringing me plants. It’s so cool having her around. It feels like I actually accomplished something by being patient and not freaking her out.
My take away from this is that the best way is just to take time, and not force it. Let Virginia set the pace.
