Okay, so today’s little adventure was all about finding a key near the “mouth of a spring.” Sounds kinda cryptic, right? I started by, you know, just thinking about what that could even mean. A “spring” could be a water source, like a natural spring, or maybe even a coiled-up piece of metal. The “mouth” part was the tricky bit. I figured it meant the opening or the start of whatever the spring was.
Brainstorm and Go
I spent a good chunk of time just wandering around my backyard, seeing if anything looked like a spring. I’ve got an old well, so that was my first thought. I peered down into it, using a flashlight, checking around the edges where the water comes up.

- Checked around the well edges.
- Used flashlight.
No luck there. It was just water, some rocks, and a very grumpy-looking frog.
Think Outside the Well
Then, I thought, “Okay, maybe it’s not a water spring.” I’ve got a few old rusty bedsprings in the garage from a mattress I took apart ages ago. Maybe the “mouth” was one of the open ends of the coils? I grabbed one of the springs and started poking around the ends. I literally got down on my hands and knees, feeling around for anything that might be a key.
- Checked my old rusty bedsprings.
- Got down on hands and knees to look.
Again, nothing. Just rust and dust bunnies. Starting to feel a little silly, to be honest.
The “Aha!” Moment
Finally, I remembered I have this little decorative fountain in my garden. It’s got a pump that makes the water bubble up like a tiny spring. And the “mouth”? It’s the little spout where the water comes out! I rushed over, feeling like an idiot for not thinking of it sooner. I felt around the base of the spout, and BAM! There it was. A tiny, slightly tarnished key, hidden just under the lip of the fountain.
- Rememebered the decorative fountain.
- Found the key at the base of the spout.
So, yeah, that’s how my “search for the key near the mouth of the spring” went. Turns out it was a lot more literal than I initially thought. It was under the lip of the fountain. A good reminder to not overthink things, I guess! It was a fun little challenge, even if I felt a bit ridiculous at times.
