Well, let me tell you, these young folks and their fancy golf games, it’s all a big to-do if you ask me. This here LIV Golf ratings, they talk about it like it’s the most important thing since sliced bread. I heard them talking, numbers this, numbers that.
They say this LIV Golf, it ain’t pullin’ in the folks like that other one, the PGA Tour, I reckon. One fella said only 89,000 folks watched some big shot, Jon Rahm, win somethin’ on that CW channel. Now, back in my day, we didn’t have all these channels. We had one TV, and if you were lucky, you got to watch it!
But these numbers, they got ’em all figured out. They say LIV Golf got an average of 289,000 folks watchin’, while the PGA Tour, well, they got millions. Millions! Can you believe that? That’s more folks than we got in our whole county!
And they talk about how this LIV Golf shows more shots, like 120 shots an hour. More shots than the other one, that PGA. Seems like they’re always showin’ somethin’ different, keeps ya guessin’, I suppose.
Now, these other numbers, they say the PGA Tour ain’t doin’ as good as last year. They say they got 2.2 million folks watchin’ on Sundays, but that’s less than before. They had 2.7 million last year, my stars! Seems folks are losin’ interest, or maybe they just got better things to do, like tendin’ to their gardens or visitin’ with family.
They even got a number for Saturdays, 1.5 million, down from 1.8 million. It’s all a mystery to me. But they say it’s important, these LIV Golf ratings.
And get this, they say LIV Golf and the PGA Tour, they’re gonna join up. Like two old hens finally agreein’ to share the same nest. They say it’s a big deal, worth a whole heap of money, 1.3 billion dollars! Can you imagine that much money? I could buy a whole lot of chickens with that kind of money.
They’re sayin’ this deal will end some big fight they been havin’. I don’t know about all that, but it sounds like a lot of fuss over a game. They hit a little ball around with a stick, and folks get all worked up about it.
- LIV Golf gets less watchers.
- PGA Tour gets more watchers, but not as many as before.
- LIV shows more golf shots.
- They are making a deal, worth a lot of money!
I heard one of them young folks sayin’ that the LIV Golf ratings on that CW thing were “minuscule.” That’s a big word for sayin’ they were tiny, I guess. And they were sayin’ the PGA Tour “trounced” LIV Golf. Sounds like a beatin’ to me. They’re always saying the PGA Tour is better, more popular.
Honestly, I don’t know why they make such a big deal out of it. It’s just a game, ain’t it? But they got all these numbers, and they talk about it like it’s the end of the world if one gets more watchers than the other. And those big words “linear TV debut”. It’s all too much for this old gal.
They keep track of every little thing. How many folks watch on Sunday, how many on Saturday. It’s like they’re countin’ every kernel of corn in the field. And they say one is down 19% and the other is down 17%. Percentages! What do I know about percentages? All I know is that if you plant your corn too close together, you won’t get a good harvest.
Back in my day, we didn’t worry about all these numbers. We just enjoyed the simple things. A good rain, a sunny day, a full belly. These young folks, they got it all backwards, I tell ya. Worryin’ about who’s watchin’ what on the television. It don’t make a lick of sense.
But they keep talkin’ about these LIV Golf ratings, like it’s the most important thing. I guess it’s important to them. They got their whole lives wrapped up in this game. Me? I’d rather be sittin’ on my porch, watchin’ the sun go down. That’s entertainment enough for me.
