Well, folks, if you been followin’ the Knicks lately, you know they’re always lookin’ to shake things up when draft time comes around. They ain’t never shy about pickin’ up players who can really put their heads down and work hard—whether it’s diving into the stands or fightin’ for them rebounds. That’s the kinda play the Knicks love, like Josh Hart, Jalen Brunson, and Mitchell Robinson. Those boys know how to get gritty, don’t they?
Now, come 2024 NBA Draft, the Knicks, they kept up with their usual ways. They ain’t goin’ for no fancy, soft players. Naw, they wanna guys who can get down in the dirt, get tough, and make somethin’ happen. They went and picked themselves up a real nice piece in Kevin McCullar Jr. out of Kansas. Now, don’t let the name fool ya, this kid’s a 6-foot-6 wing who can guard the ball like nobody’s business. I reckon he’ll fit right in with the kind of hard-nosed, hustle ball the Knicks been preachin’.
What do we know about McCullar?
- He’s one of the best defenders in this here draft.
- He’s 6-foot-6, which means he ain’t small—he can battle down low too.
- He knows how to get his hands dirty and work hard on both ends of the court.
That’s just the kinda player the Knicks been lookin’ for—somebody who ain’t afraid to get after it on defense and help keep things tight when the game’s on the line. And with the Knicks’ history of solid wing players, I bet McCullar will fit right in.
But that ain’t all, folks. The Knicks also got a first-round pick comin’ their way from the Detroit Pistons in 2025. Now, there’s some protection on that pick—so don’t expect to see it in the top 10 right off the bat. It’s got protections all the way up to No. 13 in 2025, and No. 11 in 2026, before it might convert into a second-round pick in 2027. Seems like the Knicks are playin’ the long game here.
What does that mean for the Knicks?
- They’ll have another chance to add to their roster in the next few years.
- They can use that pick to keep buildin’ depth and add more young talent to the mix.
- If the Pistons ain’t doin’ too hot, the Knicks might get a real good pick.
Now, let’s not forget about some of them other deals the Knicks been workin’ on. Last year, they made a big move gettin’ Mikal Bridges from the Suns, even though they had to give up some future first-round picks in the process. He’s locked in with a contract worth $90.9 million over four years, and he’s still got two years left on that deal. That’s gonna cost ’em, but if Bridges keeps playin’ the way he been playin’, it’ll be worth every penny.
So, what does that mean for the Knicks’ future?
- They’re still gonna be a playoff team, lookin’ to make some noise in the East.
- They’re workin’ with their young talent, tryin’ to build up a deep team for the future.
- They’ve got some big contracts comin’ up, but they got the right mix of vets and young bucks to make it work.
And don’t forget, the Knicks also made a little trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder sent over five second-round picks just so they could take Dillon Jones with the No. 26 pick. That’s a whole lot of picks, but sometimes you gotta give up something to get something, right? Maybe Jones turns out to be a gem for the Knicks—who knows?
What’s next for the Knicks?
- They got a couple more picks this year, No. 24 and No. 25.
- With all these moves, they might just be building a solid squad for the future.
- They could make some more trades or moves in the offseason to improve even more.
One thing’s for sure, the Knicks ain’t sittin’ still. They’re always tryin’ to make the team better, whether it’s draft picks, trades, or whatever else they can do. Looks like it’s gonna be an interestin’ few years in New York basketball, and I reckon we’ll be seein’ some of these new boys make their mark on the court soon enough!
