Well, now, if we’re talkin’ ’bout Jimmy Connors, I gotta say, that boy was somethin’ else, wasn’t he? Everybody around here knows him as one of them tennis legends. Now, I ain’t no expert, but I reckon most folks remember him from his backhand. You know, the one where he’d hit that ball like nobody else could. Made him a real standout, especially when it come to them big tournaments. But what’s he up to these days, you might be wonderin’? Well, let me tell ya.
Jimmy, he’s been around a long time, but he ain’t the same as he used to be. After all them years of playin’ on them courts, he sure earned his rest. But he didn’t just up and retire completely. Naw, he found himself workin’ in other ways. In 2006, ol’ Jimmy got himself into coaching. He signed up to coach that Andy Roddick fella. They worked together for a good while, about 18 months or so. Now, I reckon that wasn’t a bad move, ‘cause Andy sure learned a lot from him. But, like most things, that didn’t last forever. And since then, Connors has done a bit of commentary, too. He even took up a job with the BBC during Wimbledon one year. I guess Jimmy figured, why not stick around the game even if he wasn’t swingin’ no rackets himself?
But you might be wonderin’ where he’s livin’ now, huh? Well, old Jimmy and his wife, Patti McGuire, they settled down in Santa Barbara, California. Patti, now, she used to be a Playboy model, can you believe it? Married her back in 1979. They got themselves two young’uns, a son named Brett and a daughter, Aubree. From what I hear, they’re a happy little family, livin’ the good life out there in California.
Now, Jimmy’s personal life has had its share of news, too. You remember Miss World, Marjorie Wallace? Well, she was engaged to him for a bit back in the ‘70s, but that didn’t last long. No sir. After that, he tied the knot with Patti. But Jimmy’s never been shy about speakin’ his mind, and sometimes that got him in a bit of trouble. You know how he is, always stirrin’ things up. There was a time when he talked about his old relationship with tennis star Chris Evert. Said some things in his book that didn’t sit too well with her, and boy, did that cause a stir.
But you know, it’s not just the personal life that’s got people talkin’. People still watchin’ him on TV, even though he don’t play no more. Jimmy’s been a commentator for a while now, especially on the Tennis Channel. That’s right, when the big tennis matches are on, you can bet your boots Jimmy’s up there talkin’ about ’em. He knows his stuff, too. He might be older, but he ain’t lost none of that sharp tongue or quick wit.
But here’s the real kicker. Even though Jimmy ain’t out there playin’ in the big tournaments like he used to, he still gets pulled into the headlines. Just the other day, he made some waves after respondin’ to some comments from none other than Donald Trump! Yep, you heard me right. Apparently, there was a bit of a mix-up at one of Trump’s rallies, and Jimmy didn’t just let it slide. He came out and said his piece. That’s Jimmy for ya, always speakin’ his mind, no matter who’s listenin’.
And of course, with all the talk about Novak Djokovic and his chances at the 2024 US Open, you know Jimmy’s gotta have an opinion on that too. Folks were wonderin’ if Djokovic’s win at the Olympics might have lowered his expectations for the US Open. Well, Jimmy’s been quick to weigh in and calm those rumors down. He’s always got somethin’ to say, whether you agree with him or not.
So, there you have it. Jimmy Connors, once a tennis great, now a bit of a commentator, coach, and always someone who keeps things interesting. He might not be out there takin’ home the trophies anymore, but he sure ain’t done with the sport yet. And with all the things he’s been up to lately, I reckon you’ll be hearin’ about him for a good while yet. After all, when you’re a legend, you don’t fade away too easily.
