Alright, let’s talk about this Counter-Strike 2 situation. I’d been playing CS:GO forever, like many folks, and was pretty keen to see what CS2 brought to the table. Heard all the buzz, you know, new engine, better smokes, the works. So, the other day, I finally decided it was time. Fired up my PC, opened Steam, ready to get that update rolling.
Then I saw it. The download size. Or rather, the required space. Steam was telling me I needed a whopping 93 GB of free space. Seriously? 93 gigs! I had to double-take. I remember thinking, “No way, that can’t be right.” CS:GO wasn’t exactly small, but it wasn’t that massive.

Checking the Damage
So, the first thing I did was check my main drive. It’s an SSD, not huge, maybe 500GB, because who can afford those massive terabyte ones, right? And yeah, it was pretty full. Had a bunch of other games installed, plus work stuff, usual clutter. Definitely didn’t have 93 gigs just sitting there waiting.
This kicked off the great cleanup operation. I spent, no joke, probably a good hour just staring at my installed programs list. What could go?
- That indie game I played twice? Gone.
- That other shooter I swore I’d get back to? Sorry, pal, you’re out.
- Old video projects? Moved ’em to an external drive.
It felt like packing for a trip where you can only bring a tiny bag. Had to make some tough calls.
The Actual Install Process
Finally, after much digital scrubbing and deleting, I carved out enough space. Hit the install button. And then, well, I waited. My internet isn’t the fastest, so downloading nearly 100 gigs took a while. Made some coffee, watched some videos, came back, still going. It really tests your patience, you know?
Once it was finally downloaded, the installation itself went okay, thankfully. No major hiccups there. But booting it up, I couldn’t shake that feeling about the storage space. It’s wild how big games are getting. Sure, the graphics look sharper, Source 2 is doing its thing, but nearly 100GB feels like a lot for a game that, at its core, is still Counter-Strike.

Makes you wonder what else is packed in there. High-res textures, maybe? All those fancy new map details? Or maybe it’s just not optimized as well as it could be yet. Who knows? All I know is my SSD is feeling squeezed again.
So yeah, that was my little adventure into getting CS2 running. Be prepared to clear out some serious space if you haven’t already. It’s a beast. Makes me think twice about what other games I keep installed now. Gotta be more selective, I guess. Just the reality of modern gaming these days, huh?
