This Maybank Championship, oh boy, it’s a big deal, you know? Heard it on the radio, they say all them fancy golfers gonna be there. Big shots, they call ’em. Playing for lots of money, I bet. More money than I ever seen in my whole life! Maybank Championship, that’s what they’re calling it. Sounds important, don’t it?
They say it’s gonna be on that Golf Channel. We got that channel, you know, but I don’t watch it much. Too much green, makes my eyes tired. But this Maybank Championship, maybe I’ll take a peek. Just to see what all the fuss is about. They say it’s in, where is it? October, yeah, October 25th they said one day was, and another day was the 27th. Sounds like a long time to be hittin’ that little white ball around. I sure do know many people watch golf on TV. It’s a big thing to them.
These fancy folks, they got all the right clothes and them shiny clubs. Back in my day, we just used a stick and a rock. Didn’t need all that fancy stuff to have a good time. But this Maybank Championship, it’s different. This is serious business. They say there’s a lady, what’s her name? Mi Hyang Lee, playing there. Good for her, I say. Us women gotta stick together, even if we’re just hitting a little ball around.
9:30 at night to 2:30 in the morning, they talking about, on the TV. Lord, that’s late! I’ll be fast asleep by then. Maybe I’ll ask someone to tell me what happened. Or maybe I’ll just read about it in the paper. They always put that stuff in the paper, don’t they? All them scores and who won and all that. Maybank Championship, it’s gonna be in all the papers, I bet.
They got different rounds in this thing. Second round, final round, what have you. Sounds complicated to me. I just like to hit the ball and see where it goes. No need for all these rounds and whatnot. But that’s how they do it in the big leagues, I guess. This Maybank Championship, it’s the big leagues, alright.
- First round
- Second round
- Final round
- Lots of rounds
They say this PGA TOUR, that is the big one. It is on CBS, they said. That’s a big channel, I know that much. They say it showcases the biggest moments. I guess this Maybank Championship is one of them big moments. They say it is history and legacy. Well, I don’t know about all that. I just know it is golf.
They are playing this one at TPC Kuala Lumpur. Wherever that is. Sounds far away. I ain’t never been to no Kuala Lumpur. Probably never will. But these golfers, they go all over the place. Chasing that little white ball. It’s a life, I guess. Not the life for me, but a life nonetheless. This Maybank Championship sure sounds like a fancy do.
I remember one time, my old man, he tried to teach me how to play golf. He had these old clubs, rusty things they were. We went out to the field behind the house. He showed me how to hold the club, how to swing. I whacked that ball and it went flying, right into Mrs. Henderson’s garden. Broke her favorite flower pot. Oh, she was mad. That was the end of my golfing career. But this Maybank Championship, they won’t be hitting no flower pots, I reckon.
You know, these golfers, they make it look so easy. Just a little tap and that ball goes soaring through the air. Landing right where they want it to. Like magic. I bet it takes a lot of practice, though. Years and years of hitting that ball. Day in and day out. This Maybank Championship ain’t for folks who just play once in a while.
Well, I guess I’ll try to catch a little bit of this Maybank Championship. See what all the hoopla is about. Maybe I’ll even learn something. Probably not, but you never know. Old dogs can learn new tricks, they say. Even if those tricks involve hitting a little white ball around a big green field. Yeah, Maybank Championship gonna be a big thing.
