Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with “MLB The Show 24” lately, specifically trying to get the hang of those funky submarine pitchers. You know, the guys who throw like they’re trying to roll a bowling ball instead of pitching a baseball? Yeah, those dudes.
First off, I wanted to figure out how to even use these guys. So, I started up a game and paused it by hitting the Options button on my PS controller. You Xbox guys would probably hit the Menu button, I guess. Then, I went into the “Manager” tab and from there, I clicked on “Bullpen”. Boom! There’s a list of all the available pitchers. I just picked one who looked like he enjoyed bending over a lot, and swapped him in for my current pitcher.
Next, it was time to actually try pitching. Now, there are different pitching styles in the game, like Pulse, Classic, Pinpoint, and Analog. I’ve heard people say that Pulse and Classic feel more “real”, like a mix of your pitcher’s skills and your own skill, you know? And that Pinpoint and Analog are a little more arcade-y. I mean, it makes sense. I’m not sure I should be able to make a not-so-good pitcher look like an ace just because I’m a beast at using Pinpoint or something. I wanted the most realistic experience, so I went with Pulse.
Here’s the tricky part: actually throwing submarine style. I did some quick reading, and apparently, throwing sidearm or submarine shouldn’t wreck your arm if you’re using your whole body and not just your arm. I kept that in mind and tried to mimic what I’ve seen those submarine pitchers do in real life. Lots of bending at the waist, a low release point, and trying to get some weird movement on the ball.
- It’s tough! Getting the timing and release point right is way harder than it looks. I threw a lot of balls in the dirt. I mean, A LOT.
- When I did manage to get it over the plate, it was pretty cool to see the ball move in ways it just doesn’t with regular pitching. Batters were definitely confused.
- I’m not sure I’m ready to use a submarine pitcher in a real online game yet. I need more practice. But it’s definitely fun to experiment with. And it can be a very good way to win a game.
My Experience So Far:
One thing I read said that you should talk to your pitching coach before trying this in real life. I don’t have a pitching coach in the game, so I just kind of winged it. If you’re a real-life pitcher thinking about going submarine, definitely get some professional advice first. Don’t just copy what some guy on the internet did in a video game. But it is sure that you can throw as a submarine pitcher in MLB The Show 24.
Anyway, that’s my experience with submarine pitchers in “MLB The Show 24” so far. It’s a challenge, but a fun one. If you’ve tried it, let me know how it went for you! Maybe we can swap some tips, or just laugh about how many times we’ve bounced the ball off the catcher’s shins.
