Alright, so a while back I got super into wrestling, right? And of course, I stumbled upon the whole Goldberg and Bret Hart thing. I mean, who hasn’t? It’s like, wrestling history 101. So I started digging around, watching old matches, you know, the usual stuff.
First, I went straight for the old footage. Watched a bunch of Goldberg’s matches from his WCW days. Man, that guy was a beast! Just plowing through everyone, one spear and jackhammer at a time. It was crazy! Then I did the same for Bret Hart. Watched his stuff from way back, even before WWF. The guy’s a technical wizard, seriously.
The Infamous Match
Then, naturally, I landed on that match. You know, Starrcade ’99. The one where Goldberg kicked Bret Hart in the head and basically ended his career. I watched it once, twice, maybe ten times. Tried to see it from all angles.
- I watched Goldberg’s entrance, trying to gauge his mood.
- Then Bret’s. Same thing. Looked focused.
- The match starts, and they’re going at it.
- And then…bam! That kick.
I gotta say, watching it live or in a highlight reel doesn’t do it justice. You gotta see the whole build-up, the aftermath, everything.
Digging Deeper
After that, I started looking for interviews, documentaries, anything I could find with either of them talking about the incident. Found some old Bret Hart interviews where he’s clearly still upset about it. Can’t say I blame him. Then I found some stuff with Goldberg, where he expresses regret, says it was an accident.
I even went down a rabbit hole reading forum posts and comments from fans back then and even now. People are still debating it! Some say Goldberg was reckless, some say it was just a mistake.
So, yeah, that’s my deep dive into the whole Goldberg and Bret Hart saga. It’s a wild story, man. A real piece of wrestling history. Made me think a lot about the risks these guys take, the fine line between a good show and a career-ending injury. It’s a crazy business, that’s for sure. It was such a great time for me to learn these by myself.
