Okay, so I was all set for a chill evening, ready to dive into some Destiny 2. You know, the usual grind, maybe hit up a raid or two. But the game had other plans for me. Instead of getting my Guardian on, I got slapped with the dreaded “error code cat”. Seriously, a cat? What’s that even supposed to mean?
My first move, as always, was to just restart the game. I mean, that fixes like 90% of problems, right? Closed it down, fired it back up, and… nope. Still a cat staring back at me. Alright, fine, be that way.

Next step: reboot the whole system. I’m on PC, so I just gave my machine a good old restart. Maybe some background process was messing things up, who knows. Waited for everything to load back up, launched Destiny 2, crossed my fingers, and… still a cat. This was getting annoying.
Time to get a little more serious. I figured it might be a network issue, so I went straight for the router. Unplugged it, waited a good 30 seconds (gotta make sure those capacitors are completely drained, you know?), and plugged it back in. Waited for the internet to come back to life, feeling like a tech wizard for a moment there.
Launched the game. Still no luck. Now its error code cat, again!
Since my machine and internet were seeming no issues. I start to check the game files. I went to Steam library.
- Right-clicked on Destiny 2.
- Then went to Properties.
- Find the “Local Files”.
- Clicked “Verify integrity of game files…”.
Steam did its thing, downloading a few missing, I guess. But anyway after that I launched the game and every thing run smoothly. I am in the game!
So, yeah, that’s my little adventure with the Destiny 2 error code cat. A bit of a pain, but at least I got it sorted. Hopefully, this helps someone else out there who runs into the same furry little problem.
