Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this Arlecchino, sounds like a fancy name, eh? Folks are makin’ a big fuss about her, countin’ down the days and whatnot. I ain’t never seen nothin’ like it, not since the time old man Johnson’s cow got stuck in the mud, and we all stood around waitin’ for the rain to stop.
Who is this Arlecchino, anyway?
They say she’s called “The Knave,” sounds like she might be a troublemaker, you know, like them young’uns who steal apples from my orchard. They say she’s part of some group, the “Fatu-eye Har-bing-ers,” sounds like a bunch of fancy city folk to me. They got numbers too, she’s number four. I tell ya, these city folk and their numbers, always gotta complicate things. Can’t just say, “That’s Mary’s boy,” no, it’s gotta be “Sector Seven, Unit Four,” or somethin’ like that.
When’s she comin’?
People are lookin’ at calendars and clocks, talkin’ about “banners” and “schedules.” Seems like they expect her in some “game,” “Genshin Impact” they call it. My grandson plays it, always glued to that screen. He was tellin’ me about her, somethin’ about fire and a stick, a “Pyro Polearm” he called it. Sounds dangerous if you ask me. They say she showed up in some update, “Version 4.6.” Now they’re waitin’ for another one, “Version 5.2,” comin’ in December, near Christmas. City folks sure do love their numbers and updates. They say the big reveal, the “official unveilin’,” is gonna be on their “social media.” I don’t know nothin’ about that, sounds like a lot of noise to me. My old radio is good enough for me, tells me the weather and the news, that’s all I need.

And then there’s somethin’ about March 11th, “drip marketin’,” they call it. Sounds like sellin’ water to a well, if you ask me. But these city folks, they always gotta have fancy words for things. They’re expectin’ her to show her face at 6 pm, that’s when the sun’s startin’ to set. I guess that’s when the game players come out, like fireflies in the night.
What’s all the fuss about?
I don’t rightly know. Seems like folks are excited, though. My grandson, he’s been savin’ up his allowance, says he needs to get her. Kids these days, always wantin’ the newest thing. Back in my day, we were happy with a good stick and a ball of yarn. But I guess times change, and so do the toys. They say she’s strong, this Arlecchino, a “formidable 5-star” somethin’. Sounds like she’s one of the best, like the biggest pumpkin in the patch.
There’s even a whole group of folks, a “subreddit,” they call it, just talkin’ about her.
They share pictures and stories, like a bunch of hens cluckin’ over a shiny pebble. It’s somethin’ else, I tell ya. I guess people need somethin’ to look forward to, somethin’ to get excited about. Even if it’s just a character in a game. Me, I get excited about the first tomatoes of the season, or a good rain after a dry spell. But to each their own, I say.
So, that’s the story of this Arlecchino, as far as I can tell. A fancy-named character in a game, with fire and a stick, and folks are countin’ down the days ’til she arrives. Sounds like a whole lot of hullabaloo to me, but then again, I’m just an old woman who prefers the quiet of the countryside.
