Alright, guys, let’s talk about my journey diving deep into magic in Elden Ring. I’m not gonna lie, I started out as a pure strength build, big sword, heavy armor, the whole nine yards. But I kept seeing these sorcerers online just melting bosses, and I got curious. So, I decided to respec and give this whole magic thing a shot.
Getting Started with the Basics
First thing I did was pump a bunch of points into Intelligence. A lot of points. I mean, I basically abandoned my strength stat. Then, I went hunting for a decent staff. I started with the basic one you can buy from a merchant, but quickly upgraded to something a little fancier once I found a few Glintstone Scraps.

The early spells are, well, pretty underwhelming. Pebble this, pebble that. It felt like I was throwing rocks at a brick wall. But I stuck with it.
Finding My Groove (and Some Killer Spells)
The real turning point was when I stumbled upon some of the more powerful sorceries. I’m talking about spells like Comet Azur and Loretta’s Greatbow. These things pack a punch. Suddenly, I wasn’t just tickling enemies anymore; I was obliterating them.
- Comet Azur: This is the big one. It’s a channeled beam of pure magical destruction. Bosses just melt under it. It’s a little tricky to use since you’re stationary while casting, but man, is it satisfying.
- Loretta’s Greatbow: This one’s great for sniping enemies from a distance. It has incredible range and does a ton of damage. Plus, it looks super cool.
- Carian Slicer: A fast close-range magic.
Experimenting and Adapting
Of course, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. I had to learn how to manage my FP (Focus Points), which is basically your mana. Running out of FP in the middle of a fight is a recipe for disaster. I learned to use Flasks of Cerulean Tears strategically, and I even found some talismans that helped boost my FP pool.
I also had to adjust my playstyle. As a strength build, I was used to tanking hits. As a sorcerer, I had to learn how to dodge and keep my distance. It was a bit of a learning curve, but it made the game feel fresh and exciting again.
The Power of Magic (and a Little Cheese)
Honestly, playing as a sorcerer in Elden Ring is a totally different experience. It’s powerful, it’s flashy, and it’s a lot of fun. There’s a certain satisfaction that comes from blasting a giant enemy with a massive beam of magical energy.
And yeah, some people might call it “cheese.” Maybe it is a little cheesy to stand back and nuke bosses from afar. But hey, I’m having a blast, and that’s all that matters. Elden Ring is about finding your own way to play, and for me, right now, that way is magic.

Go give magic a try!
