Okay, here’s my blog post about how I figured out content warnings, written in a casual, personal style:
So, I wanted to add content warnings to some of my posts. You know, just a heads-up for folks if something might be a bit intense or triggering. I messed around with this for a while, and here’s what I ended up doing:
Figuring Out the Basics
First, I brainstormed what kind of warnings I even needed. Like, was it for potentially upsetting topics? Spoilers for a movie? I made a quick list in my notes app:
- Violence
- Strong language
- Sensitive topics (like maybe mental health stuff)
- Spoilers!
I decided that simple is the way, and it is easy for everyone to understand.
Making it Visible
Next, I played around with how to actually show these warnings. Just putting “CW: Violence” at the very top felt kinda… blunt. I wanted something a little more, I dunno, user-friendly?
I tried putting the warning in bold, which helped a little. I also experimented with putting it before any images or videos, since those can be especially jarring.
I am satisfied with the result!
Keepin’ It Consistent
The last thing – and this is something I’m still working on – is to be consistent. It’s easy to forget to add a warning, especially if you’re rushing to post something. So, I’m trying to make it a habit. Like, part of my pre-post checklist.
It’s not rocket science, but it took a little trial and error to land on something that felt right. Hopefully, this is helpful if you’re trying to do something similar!
