Alright, so the other day I was just chilling, scrolling through some baseball stuff online, and a question popped into my head: “Did Manny Machado play shortstop?” I mean, I always see him at third base, right? So, I got curious and decided to dig a little.
First thing I did was hit up Google. Typed in “Manny Machado shortstop” and a bunch of stuff came up. I started clicking through some articles and game summaries just to get a general idea.
Here’s what I found out:
- The Orioles drafted this guy as a shortstop back in 2010. That’s where he started, you know?
- He actually played shortstop with the Delmarva Shorebirds in 2011. That’s minor league, but still, he was playing there.
- Then, after J.J. Hardy retired in 2017, Machado made a move back to shortstop for a year. So, he did have some recent experience there.
- But, when he joined the Padres, they really wanted him at third base. I guess that’s his strong suit, and they already had other guys who could handle shortstop.
- There was even a mention that someone compared him to Cal Ripken Jr., but playing third base. That’s a pretty big compliment!
So, I went through all this, read a bunch of articles, and pieced it all together. It was actually pretty interesting to see how his career developed. He started at shortstop, moved to third, went back to shortstop for a bit, and then settled in at third with the Padres. The dude’s versatile, I’ll give him that.
After going through all of that info, I felt like I had a pretty good handle on the whole shortstop situation with Machado. It wasn’t just a simple yes or no answer. It was cool to see how he transitioned between positions throughout his career.
Anyway, that’s my little investigation for the day. Just a random thought that turned into a mini-research project. I love how you can find out so much just by poking around the internet a bit. It made me appreciate Machado’s journey even more, seeing how he adapted and excelled in different roles on the field.
