Alright, let’s talk about this fella, Dave Van Horn. Don’t know much about fancy stuff, but I heard he’s a big deal in baseball, ya know, the game with the bats and balls.
Dave Van Horn, the Baseball Big Shot
So, this Dave guy, born way back in 1960, he’s been coachin’ them college boys in baseball for a long, long time. He’s the head coach for the Arkansas Razorbacks, that’s a team name I think, like them wild pigs or somethin’. Been coachin’ them hogs for, shoot, over twenty years now! Twenty-two years they say, that’s a mighty long time to be yellin’ at young’uns, I tell ya.
- Born in 1960: Been around the block a few times, this fella.
- Head Coach at Arkansas: Top dog for the Razorbacks, the pig team.
- Coaching for over 20 years: Must know a thing or two about baseball, I reckon.
Before he was coachin’, he played ball too. An infielder they called him. Don’t know what that means exactly, but I guess he was good at catchin’ and throwin’ the ball.
Folks say he’s real good at his job. They even gave him an award, “SEC Coach of the Year” they called it. Sounds fancy, right? Must mean he’s the best coach around or somethin’. He took over from some other fella, DeBriyn, back in 2003. Right from the start, he got them Razorbacks winnin’ games. Took ’em to all sorts of tournaments, SEC and NCAA, don’t ask me what those letters stand for.
Winnin’ Games and Raisin’ Hogs
This Dave Van Horn, he’s got a knack for winnin’, that’s for sure. They say he’s got a record, somethin’ like 214 wins and only 92 losses. That’s a lot more wins than losses, so I guess he’s pretty darn good. Even when his team got a bunch of players hurt, like last year in 2023, they still won a bunch of games. Thirty-nine wins and fifteen losses, that’s what they say. And they won twenty conference games too, whatever a “conference” is.
He’s so good, they say he’s turned the Razorbacks into a real contender, means they got a chance to win it all, I suppose. He’s even taken them to the College World Series seven times! That sounds like a big deal, “World Series” and all.
More Than Just Baseball
Now, this Dave fella, he ain’t just about baseball. He’s got a family too. A wife, Karen Lee, and two daughters. Met his wife when he was workin’ at Arkansas way back when. Seems like a good fella, workin’ hard and takin’ care of his family.
A Master Manager
Some folks call him a “master manager” of baseball. That’s a mouthful, ain’t it? I guess it means he knows what he’s doin’ when it comes to coachin’ them young fellas. He figures out the best way to play and gets his team to do it. Been doin’ it for a long time, and seems he’s still doin’ a mighty fine job.
So there ya have it, a little somethin’ about Dave Van Horn. A baseball coach, a family man, and a fella who seems to know how to win. He’s been at Arkansas for a long spell and it looks like he’ll be there for a while longer, coachin’ them Razorbacks and tryin’ to win them championships. Good for him, I say. Nothin’ wrong with a fella workin’ hard and doin’ what he loves.
